I enjoy helping students reach their academic goals in high school and college math courses such as algebra 2, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, AP Calculus AB / BC, Calculus 1 and 2, Calculus 3 (multivariable calculus), business calculus, and introductory probability theory. I began tutoring math when I was in high school, and have tutored during many of the years since.

I can explain mathematical concepts and techniques in multiple ways and make adjustments to suit each student's learning style. I can present material graphically, algebraically, verbally, using analogies, etc. I am encouraging and supportive during sessions. I work through problems together with students, asking them many questions along the way and encouraging them to take as many steps as possible themselves to solve the problems. Of course if they don't know what to do I'll explain the general technique and demonstrate with examples. But I always strive to have students actively participate in the process rather than being passive. Because learning mathematics requires actively doing mathematics.

For online sessions I use zoom and an online whiteboard (ziteboard.com or limnu.com). I use a tablet and stylus that connects to my computer to make writing on the whiteboard easier. For students who have a tablet and stylus already, I recommend that they use them during online tutoring sessions. Students who don't have a tablet and stylus can use pencil and paper while I am writing on the whiteboard and we talk through the problems together.

I had an early interest in numbers and math was my favorite subject in high school. I attended college at Caltech in Pasadena, California where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. I worked as an actuarial analyst at WellPoint and passed three actuarial exams. I attended graduate school at Indiana University and earned a Master's degree in Mathematics. I worked as a teaching assistant for several semesters while I was in graduate school.

Very effective.

My daughter's understanding of calculus -- and her grades in the class -- improved immensely with Lisa's help. I recommend her highly. She didn't just explain the concepts--she had a nice way of getting my daughter to work through the problems herself so that she understands the concepts more deeply.

Tutoring with Lisa has been really helpful

I highly recommend Lisa her support is great, she is detailed and patient. We reviewed related rates which isn’t an easy topic but she went step by step to help me understand.

Outstanding Tutor!

Lisa is a fantastic tutor for Calculus 3! Extremely knowledgeable, patient and professional. It is difficult to find an advanced Calculus tutor who is a skilled instructor - Lisa is the best! Helped prepare me for Calculus 3 final- 10/10!

Incredibly knowledgeable and helpful

Lisa helped immensely in my understanding of my Calculus class. I went from a struggling student to a confident test-taker within only a couple of lessons. She was incredibly patient, and could walk me through any problem I could think of. Our set of lessons prepared me for the AP Calculus exam, as well as any smaller tests for the week. I would recommend Lisa to anyone who needs any tutoring on calculus topics.

Amazing tutor!

Lisa helped my son review (or should I say cram) for his business calc final. He called me after he took it saying he knew he did really well. Lisa was incredibly patient and they communicated back and forth several times between sessions over a weekend. So glad we found her! Total grade-saver! Thank you Lisa!

Calculus II

Lisa helped me understand some concepts I had been struggling with. It's been challenging taking an accelerated summer version of Calculus II with online classes only and no access to campus resources like study groups or the math lab at the university. Thank you for all the help!

Skilled and knowledgeable tutor.

LIsa started working with my daughter for extra help with AP calc AB in early spring. She is a great tutor, explains things clearly and provides excellent examples and exercises for practice. Shortly after they started working together, schools shut down and went online in this area. Lisa was flexible as we negotiated the changes, and proved an invaluable source of instruction with the loss of classroom time. She was able to help our student complete the class and prep for the AP exam, which reduced the stress significantly. We highly recommend working with Lisa!
