I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Spring 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature. While there, I completed the year-long Writing Center tutor intern training program and was employed as a tutor the following school year. For my tutoring work, I recieved the Phyllis Weidig Prize from the English Department. Additionally, I worked as a Writing Tutor for Middlesex Community College for 1.5 years and tutored my peers throughout high school. While working at Middlesex Community College, I received CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) Level 2 Certification, demonstrating my commitment to training and growing as a reflective practitioner. My favorite part about tutoring is seeing students gain a greater understanding of the material and become independent learners.
I always make it a priority to be compassionate, friendly, and approachable when working with people and hope to create a positive environment for learning. I always ask the student what their top priorities for the session are and adjust my approach accordingly. While most of my experience is in reviewing essays, I am able to help with all areas of reading, writing, and ELA learning. Additionally, my experience includes tutoring a diverse range of students, including English Language Learners.
I also have experience tutoring students to help with study skills, time management, and organization. In the past, I've received tutoring in this area, as it has not always come naturally to me. This personal experience gave me greater insight on how to help students who are struggling with similar problems. Additionally, I have experience working with elementary school students, including as a classroom assistant for a theatre arts class. I have also worked as a peer mentor for students with developmental disabilities who were dual-enrolled at UMass.
