I recently earned my BA Summa Cum Laude from UMass Amherst with a double major in Linguistics and Comparative Literature, along with a French minor and a certificate in TESOL. I am currently pursuing an MA in Linguistics with a concentration in NLP at Syracuse University, and this summer I worked on an NSF funded experimental linguistics research grant conducting field work in the Caribbean for seven weeks. These accomplishments alongside tutoring linguistics for the past three years in topics such as phonetics, syntax, semantics, and computational linguistics helps me to aid my students with a variety of coursework.

I am fortunate to have received my linguistics training at UMass Amherst, currently the #2 school in the country for linguistics, and I use this unique background to help students raise their grades and understand material. Other subjects I enjoy tutoring besides linguistics and ESL include French, which I have been learning for 10 years and have recently have accepted a position as primary instructor of a French course.

I have also worked as an editor for mOthertongue, a journal of the arts published by the Comparative Literature department, and for the UMass Daily Collegian as a French translator. Last year, I was fortunate enough to aid in translating immigration documentation for the International Rescue Committee.

My research interests include computational morphosyntax, natural language processing, French-based Creole syntax, corpus linguistics, semantics, and language documentation. I am an advanced French speaker, and an intermediate speaker of Haitian Creole and Japanese. In my free time, I enjoy biking, gardening, video games, backpacking, and reading.

ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have been working for the ESL program at UMass Amherst for three years, where I teach American Culture and English Language courses to graduate students and international professors to help them improve their English usage. I now tutor ESL privately online, using my specialized linguistics background to offer targeted pronunciation, syntax, and vocabulary practice to my students. I am still employed in the ESL program where I tutor for 6 hours every week along with my private students online.
French

French

I actively tutor French to students at a variety of proficiency levels, and act as the primary instructor of an undergraduate French course at Syracuse University. I have spent a large amount of time in France and the French Caribbean and have a minor in French and Francophone Studies which I use to help my students with speaking, reading, and listening skills. Please see my reviews for a testament to my French teaching ability, I promise the language will seem easier after we speak!
Linguistics

Linguistics

I have earned an A in a dozen Linguistics courses at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (ranked #2 in the US for Linguistics), including phonology, phonetics, syntax, computational linguistics, semantics, prosody, historical linguistics, and TESOL. My main research interests involve phonetics, computational linguistics, and TESOL, but my comprehensive experience in the other areas of linguistics acts as a foundation for my research inquiries. I have acted as a peer instructor and have been tutoring linguistics privately for two years, helping my students through difficult assignments and challenging course loads. I am happy to help with undergraduate or graduate work in this area.

Knowledgeable and excellent tutor!

Will has been an incredible help with my college-level linguistics/speech sound disorders course. His expertise in phonetics is truly impressive, and he jumped right into the course material, giving me confidence in his abilities from the start. If you're looking for an outstanding tutor, look no further. He's also highly responsive and explains complex concepts in a way that's easy to understand.

The best teacher

He taught me French the day before my French exam and it was actually such a huge help. I got a score that was way better than I expected, and if he hadn't taught me I definitely would’ve gotten like a 20 on my exam lol. Very kind, very helpful, super easy to understand, 10/10.
