I am a linguist from the University of Kansas (KU), where I graduated magna cum laude with Bachelor of Arts in Global and International Studies; Slavic, German, and Eurasian Studies: Concentration in Russian; and General Linguistics. I also earned a minor in Spanish and a certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. While at KU, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica and in Latvia, where I refined my foreign language skills.
I have three years' experience tutoring college students in English as a second language (ESL). I prefer to use a more easy-going conversation to mimic natural speech and reinforce learned grammatical concepts. This style is easily tailored to be more free-flowing or more structured with exercises and corrections. It is also flexible to small groups or one-on-one instruction.
Additionally, I have experience teaching Russian as a second language (RSL) to a class of high school students. I write engaging lesson plans accommodating various learning styles with a variety of resources. Similar to ESL, I prefer to reinforce the learned concepts and vocabulary with structured conversations.
I want to make sure that I am the right fit for you - please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or requests about my experience or tutoring style.
