However, I have also taught group classes which covered English business skills such as meetings, presentations, and emails. Although most of my students have been adults, I have also taught some children.
I love teaching English and helping my students to progress. When they realize that they have made progress and have gained confidence in using the language, I feel rewarded. Therefore, I provide a "safe" learning environment.
Since I am also learning Mandarin Chinese, I understand the challenges that learning a second language presents. (You should hear some of the mistakes I've made!) My goal is to help my students reach their English proficiency goals in their professional and/or personal life.
As an English teacher, I have learned through experience how to help my students overcome the 3 main areas of difficulty in English grammar - verb tenses, articles and prepositions. I have help other students prepare for both the general and academic IELTS and TOEFL exams.
This preparation included building vocabulary, high level grammar, listening skills, speaking (conversation and Q & A), reading comprehension, and writing, including simple, complex and compound sentence structure, as well as adverbial clauses, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions. I also cover test taking tips and advice on how to avoid common grammar mistakes. My reading instruction includes shadowing, which helps students to improve their pronunciation.
