Hi, I'm Kayla! I attended 'Iolani School where I graduated Valedictorian and attended Brown University where I studied computer science and entrepreneurship. Throughout high school and college, I've loved teaching other students! I was a teacher's aid for Japanese language students, and also was a one-on-one tutor for Algebra and Writing. I have seen great results working with students by improving their study habits and developing personalized lesson plans. I'll take time prior to our lessons to re-study the necessary material and create productive lesson schedules. If you have any concerns, please reach out to me and I will accommodate as best I can!

For Algebra and math, I develop specifically targeted practice problems and be supportive and understanding. Regarding my own SAT Math, I received an 800 in the section twice after studying and using techniques that I would love to share with other students.

Speaking from my own testing experiences, I improved my PSAT score by over 200 points and ACT score by 5 points by studying. I hope to share my techniques consisting of doing practice tests, analyzing incorrect problems, and creating lessons going over difficult concepts.

I worked as a Writing Center tutor at my high school. I read essays and gave feedback on their essay structure, grammar, etc.

The college application process is difficult, so I hope to help students navigate this space. I have first-hand experience working through multiple applications to top colleges, and I want to share my experience about what worked and what didn't work.

At Brown University, I was a Peer Career Advisor at our career center. I helped students with resumes, cover letters, interviews, job searches, and more.

Overall, I hope to be able to help students reach their fullest potential! I will always be empathetic towards their needs and have clear and open communication. Please contact me to schedule a lesson or if you have any questions, and I'll respond promptly! Thank you so much for your consideration!

College Counseling

College Counseling

I applied to eleven different top colleges with extensive application processes and received admittance to two Ivy League colleges among other acceptances and waitlists. I also worked with a student in the year below by suggesting edits to his application essays and giving advice. Overall, I have much first-hand experience by researching the college application process for myself and also working with other students, which I feel would make me a qualified college counselor.

Elementary (K-6th)

I worked as mentor through the Brown Elementary Afterschool Mentoring (BEAM) Program. I provided after-school enrichment programming to first grade students from William D’Abate Community School, an elementary school in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence. I created unique lesson plans each week, especially focused on math and science.
