I have two bachelor's degrees from the University of Hawaii, one in Journalism and one in Economics. I also have a Master of Education in Teaching (MEdT) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Hawaii. I have an expired teaching license in social studies from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.

I have taught one semester of English Language Arts (ELA) to ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders.

During that time I taught students several literary genres, such as short stories, poetry, and drama. I used several methods to develop students' critical thinking skills, such as learning different ways to analyze plot, character, theme, and literary devices. I attempted to have the student engaged by having do several group activities, such as writing and performing their own plays. Each class had about 35 students and I had a total of 150 students.

I have 4 years of teaching English in Japan, as both an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) to elementary and middle school students in the classroom, and as an English language school (ekaiwa) teacher. At the ekaiwa I taught mostly adults in conversational or business English in 1-on-1 or small group (up to five students) settings.

I also have 1.5 years of tutoring experience in a tutoring center, mostly 1-on-1 or in small groups to college students. I helped ESL students practice conversation and writing. I also helped students who needed help with essay writing. I helped undergraduates and graduate students with improving clarity, forming a clear thesis, developing good body paragraphs, and ensuring citations were done correctly.
