I'm Allison! I am an undergraduate student majoring in finance and economics with minors in political science and professional writing. I have self-studied to test out of many courses throughout my academic career, so I understand the value of a good tutor. When teaching myself and others, I focus heavily on the "Why?" behind every topic. Simply relying on the memorization of concepts is not practical in the long term; when you know why you have to put a comma there or why you have to divide those numbers, then you finally begin to understand the topic.
I am experienced in tutoring English/writing at Kennesaw State University where I reviewed essays (or any other written assignment students wanted help with). My goal was not to make corrections and send the students on their way but to make them a better writer by equipping them with skills to use on future assignments. No matter what stage in a student's writing process they are in, I can aid them in some manner--whether they are brainstorming ideas or have a finished work. From grammar, rhetoric, or whatever the issue may be, I am confident I can improve a student's English/Writing Skills. As well as English, I have expertise in math. I understand the theory behind math and can break down the equations so students understand the inner workings of the problems they are working on. While I do not have experience tutoring math, this is the subject I am the most passionate about and have the most knowledge of. I have expertise in elementary math, any level of algebra (from pre- to college), and pre-calculus.
