Bio

Current public middle school World History teacher. I have taught private middle and high school Latin (3 years); former college instructor in Ancient Mythology and World Religions (8 years). I hold a 5 year professional certificate teaching license in Latin (K-12) and Social Science (6-12) in Florida. As a Latin teacher, I also led my JCL Latin students to victory at local and state competitions. I hold a BA in Classics (Latin) and History from the University of Mississippi, 2006, and MA in Classics (Greek and Latin) from Florida State University, 2011, where I am also pursuing a Ph.D. in Religion (History and Ethnography of Religions) and where I taught Ancient Mythology, World Religions, and Sanskrit Language. My teaching and tutoring Latin at the middle school and high school levels for years has given me experience in helping students overcome many hurdles to learning a foreign language. I enjoy showing how Latin and Greek can be FUN and not just for a grade! As an experienced university Instructor I can help with just about any humanities college coursework as well.

I also offer Sanskrit and Tibetan tutoring here.
I have taught and tutored an undergraduate course of Sanskrit, an ancient language of India.
I have also studied Tibetan language for several years in-person at both Florida State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as through the online studies program at Rangjung Yeshe Institute, an affiliate of Kathmandu University in Nepal.

My experience teaching Ancient Mythology and World Religions for years has helped me to learn what students need to succeed in these courses. As a tutor I can provide study tips which can help frame knowledge in the short and long term.

After receiving an MA in Classics (Greek and Latin) from FSU, I taught middle and high school Latin for 3 years. I was a substitute teacher for my professors in Greek and Latin at Ole Miss. I assisted and taught Ancient Mythology classes for two years as well as World Religions for five years at FSU.

Very Knowledgeable

Mr. Roland was very knowledgeable and very much knew his stuff, knowing and recommending various sources to the Sanskrit and Tibetan language for beginners (also having a range of views to different pronunciations that these dialects could have), particularly for those who are set in English-based systems.
