Hi and thank you for visiting my profile!

Before tutoring independently, I tutored over 1,100 online calculus sessions for a national tutoring company and had a 4.8 (out of 5) average rating. I also passed the Texas State Examination (TExES) for Mathematics Grades 8-12, scoring a 293/300.

20 years after taking two semesters of college calculus (and earning a PhD in Humanities), I had to reteach myself everything, a process that has really helped me to understand what and why students struggle to learn about calculus. This process also taught me to find ways to clearly explain the relevant concepts and processes to myself and to others, primarily by using words so that the equations and setups make sense.

My approach is to focus on each step in a process so that you have a general template to follow and to adjust as needed. I will also ask you a lot of questions in order to get you to articulate what it is that you are looking for and what it is that you should be doing. Calculus is usually not taught this way, but learning to talk yourself through calculus problems is very effective.
