Bio

I’ve taught high schoolers for over 20 years and most of that time spent at 1 school in St. Augustine, FL. Subjects taught include Biology (hon/std), Pre-IB Biology, Anatomy & Physiology Hon, & Marine Science (hon/std). Most of those years were spent teaching biology and marine science subjects. My favorite course to teach is Marine Science as I built a popular & very hands-on classroom (many field trips & labs) and many years only taught this course as it filled my schedule completely. I love it because the oceans & its unique physical & biological characteristics are fascinating. What’s there not to enjoy learning about deep sea ocean exploration, bioluminescence, plankton, coral reefs, tsunami’s, etc. Marine Science fit my lifestyle as well, as I am a very active person that spends a lot of time surfing, fishing and boating.

Biology is a subject that the state of Florida requires all students to achieve success on so I am well aware of this high stakes course for high school students. I’ve had to prepare my students for the previous FCAT’s & more recently the Biology State End of Course (EOC) exam, with much success. The biology curriculum & benchmarks are spelled out pretty clearly & I can definitely help a struggling student gain confidence & boost their overall understanding & achievement, if given the opportunity.

Anatomy & Physiology is a wonderful subject as well & also near & dear to my heart (ha, ha!). I recently retired from teaching to pursue a path in the medical profession & currently enrolled in a radiography program (4 days of classes/hospital clinicals). I’m excited about my new career path! Needless to say after teaching this subject for several years as well as taking several college courses (also Microbiology degree), I feel confident in my ability to help others grasp the wonderful subject of the human body.

I look forward to adding much value for young students in their journey of the sciences.

Tennis

My tennis experience began around the age of 10 and grew from there. Growing up in Florida I began playing competitive tennis (USTA tournaments), followed by 2 years of NAIA Collegiate tennis experience (also NAIA National tournament experience) playing both singles (#5, #6) and doubles (#3) for the 2 years (freshman, sophomore) that I attended Flagler College. I've coaches hundreds of junior and adults in private and lessons, clinics and summer camps as well as coached a competitive high school team to much success. I continue to play recreationally now into my late 40's.
