About Sister Solana

Bio

I have ten years experience working with students with special learning needs, ages 4-22. I have tutored children with Autism spectrum disorders and helped them get ahead in school. Subjects included Reading and Writing to improve hand motor coordination.

I am the co-creator of a new autism program. This program was developed as an alternative to ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis). It teaches how to learn to make choices, instead of using a rewards and consequence method.

My tutoring methods...

I have ten years experience working with students with special learning needs, ages 4-22. I have tutored children with Autism spectrum disorders and helped them get ahead in school. Subjects included Reading and Writing to improve hand motor coordination.

My tutoring methods use 20 minutes of left brained learning, and 20 minutes of right brain learning, to help students reduce stress and maximize their results.

I have taught elementary social skills, art, reading, and writing and Math, science and social studies.

I am an avid reader and have published my own children's book.

I have certification in special education, K-12.

I have taught social skills and conflict resolution. Topics include anger management, anti-bullying, problem solving, communication skills, etc.

I also have training in The Orton Gillingham (Spire) Reading program. I have been certified to teach Touch Math for Autism.

I got a State award for Teacher Excellence in 2018. There were over 800 teacher nominations. I was among the 8 teachers picked across the State.

I am currently managing a learning center for students with special learning needs.

I taught them Strategies to manage Attention, Memory, time management, test taking skills, anger management. An example would be the SLANT strategy to pay attention. S-sit straight L-lean forward A-Act interested N-Nod T-track teacher Students had to pick a strategy of the month to work on. Those who persevered were rewarded.
