About Mario

Bio

After 25+ years in the corporate world, I decided to pursue my passion for math and teaching by working with students who need help understanding the basic concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and other common math topics.

I am an Industrial Engineer and an MBA, so I've always been comfortable with numbers and logical thinking (I scored 98% in the GMAT math section).

After 25+ years in the corporate world, I decided to pursue my passion for math and teaching by working with students who need help understanding the basic concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and other common math topics.

I am an Industrial Engineer and an MBA, so I've always been comfortable with numbers and logical thinking (I scored 98% in the GMAT math section).

My experience in teaching comes not from a traditional education background but from the corporate world. One of my most important tasks was to give presentations that required me to distill and simplify elaborate concepts, and to keep my audience engaged. I am now using those same skills in my math tutoring sessions.

I firmly believe that math is not difficult: it is just poorly taught. During my tutoring sessions I make sure that my students master the basics first. I also use examples to make the concepts less abstract and easier to understand. My goal is to help my students overcome their fear of math, enjoy the learning process, and do well in class and tests.

I am also fully bilingual (English and Spanish) and can deliver my lessons in either language.

Aside from tutoring, I love computer programming, birding, traveling and watching soccer.

During my ACT math preparation sessions, I start off with a lot of practice problems, and make sure that my students master the basics first. I also focus on test-taking strategy so that students may learn different ways to answer a question. Since ACT covers a broad section of subjects, I also recommend other resources that students can use to brush up on their knowledge of specific concepts. My goal is to help my students overcome their fear of taking the ACT, enjoy the learning process, and do well in their test.

Mario did an amazing job with our children and explained the math concepts clearly. EOC Algebra 1

Mario helped my daughter review problems from a review packet she received from school. My daughter said he was very patient and he was knowledgeable on the topic. He recommended that she did a two hour session and I had my daughter do the two hours. He was promptly logged in zoom at our scheduled time. He also gave my daughter tips on how to prepare for the test. We will definitely use him again.
