Bio

Greetings students and parents! I'm McKenna, a math teacher and tutor with over 20 years of experience. I've been around education all my life; my mother started volunteering at a middle school when I was still in diapers and when she got hired as the media clerk, the library became my playground. I developed a passion for learning, and in high school when I got my first job at a tutoring center I developed a passion for helping others learn as well. Greetings students and parents! I'm McKenna, a math teacher and tutor with over 20 years of experience. I've been around education all my life; my mother started volunteering at a middle school when I was still in diapers and when she got hired as the media clerk, the library became my playground. I developed a passion for learning, and in high school when I got my first job at a tutoring center I developed a passion for helping others learn as well. I worked with students from Pre-K to high school at the tutoring center and when I moved up to Orlando for university, I also worked with Academic Services for Student Athletes, tutoring at the college level.

My academic affinity has always been towards math, completing a dual enrollment Differential Equations course in my senior year of high school. Math just makes sense to me, but I know a lot of people are baffled by its inner workings. However, I am not the typical left-brained logical math whiz! My undergraduate degree is in Computer Animation, and I have a strong art background, so can make creative connections that help students understand mathematical concepts more easily. My passion for both math and education led me to apply for Teach For America after I graduated from college, and I was placed as a high school math teacher in Miami. I've been a certified high school math teacher since 2014. My experience as a teacher has given me even more strategies and resources to support my students and help them reach success.

As a full-time teacher, the majority of my availability is in the afternoons and evenings as well as the weekend. I'm happy to help students with class assignments, test prep, or extra practice and further explanation of concepts. Please contact me to set up a session!

Patient and knowledgeable tutor

Ida helped my 9th grader with honors geometry. She was patient and knew how to break concepts into parts. My daughter is somewhat disorganized and Ida helped her to focus, gather information, review concepts, and tff then work through problems. My daughter really liked her and felt confident after the lesson.

My daughter really enjoyed her first session with Ms. McKenna. I observed the session and she was very engaging. My daughter re-took a quiz on the material they reviewed right after their session. A quiz she initially failed, she ended up getting an A on the retake. Very pleased thus far with the results.
