Hello, I'm Hander! I´m a multidisciplinary visual artist and teacher. I graduated from the University of the Arts of Cuba and the San Alejandro Fine Arts Academy with highest honors in both. My artistic practice encompasses painting, sculpture, installation, photography and drawing. Throughout my career my work has been exhibited in twelve countries, being presented in museums, biennials, galleries, art fairs and other spaces. In 2007 I won First Prize in the European Union Art Competition and in 2008 I obtained a scholarship to study at the Royal University of Art (Kungl. Konsthögskolan) in Stockholm, Sweden.
Throughout my career, I have combined artistic practice with my other passion, teaching, accumulating fifteen years of experience. I was a professor at the University of the Arts in Cuba for twelve years, leading its Sculpture Department for four years. I have given talks and workshops at universities, museums, and other artistic institutions in Cuba, Germany, Sweden, Mexico, and the United States. More recently, between 2022 and 2024, I served as a teacher at the Miami Arts Charter School in Wynwood, Miami. My experience therefore allows me to work with students of any knowledge level, addressing their different needs and learning paces, from elementary level to adults, exploring a wide range of medias, skills and techniques, as related to contemporary and historical art perspectives. I can also assist in preparing portfolios for admission to art schools and universities.
