I'm Cecily S! I graduated from UCF with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. When I was younger I had a hard time in the classroom. I'm Cecily S! I graduated from UCF with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. When I was younger I had a hard time in the classroom. Since then, I have created a bright education for myself by teaching myself important techniques. My education wouldn’t be where it is if not for my educators. Having special figures in my life not only made me a better student but also made me an even better tutor for others! My approach to tutoring is creating a learning environment fostered through compassion, patience, and understanding. All children can be great students, they just need an educator who can teach through their teaching style. My experience of elementary education tutoring and being a Registered Behavioral Technician allows me to even work with children with behavioral or learning disabilities!

With college students, I usually implement the Pomodoro Technique which has been shown to improve focus and reduce distractions.

I have three years of experience teaching elementary education, including basic mathematics, sciences, reading, and vocabulary. I have worked directly with students ages 2-17 in school, inpatient, and virtually. This experience allowed me to be prepared for any teaching environment. Most of my teaching experience came with my work as an RBT for 2 years, where I worked with children coping with behavioral disorders. I am a professional at dealing with a child who may not be willing to engage or focus and can direct the situation back to our work.
I worked as a small group tutor for Research Methods in Psychology and General Psychology. Working as a small group tutor I usually either would meet on Zoom or in the library where I would prep college students for their upcoming exams.

My goal is to be a guide for my students, to not only teach them for the present but prepare them for the future. I welcome all types of students who need a tutor and will accommodate them as needed if they have a disability! Ask any additional questions or contact me to schedule a lesson!

ADHD

ADHD

When I was working as a Registered Behavioral Technician my main focus was treating children with ASD, though I received several clients who also are coping with ADHD. I implemented similar strategies certified through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which means implementing behavior reduction, coping strategies, and teaching independence with tasks such as school work and daily needs. Working in school was my main focus when treating my clients with ADHD, I would sit with them in class and keep them on task, tutor them on various subjects, and work hand-in-hand on helping them understand the subject matter through their lens of learning. During my time of 2 years, I worked with children 2-17 years old and cooperated with them by working alongside my supervisors and their parents. My licenses included my Registered Behavioral Technician, HIPPA Compliance, and Safety Care licenses.
Anatomy

Anatomy

As nursing students, we are required to have a comprehensive knowledge of the anatomy of the human body. I have passed both anatomy and physiology courses with an A- and excel greatly in these subjects. As a nursing student, these subject areas are where I have an abundance of knowledge and have to utilize in life-or-death situations. I have also taken microbiology and pathophysiology, which are branches of the two subjects, which give me extensive knowledge of the anatomy of the human body.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

As a Registered Behavioral Technician, I worked one-on-one with children coping with ASD, as I managed a caseload of 4 children in-patient, in-school, and through Telehealth. This included working with children who were also non-verbal and low functioning as I focused on tracking and improving their communication using the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and voice output devices. I was certified and received my board licenses from the BACB to implement behavior reduction strategies, discrete trial training, and other techniques through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). These licenses included my Registered Behavioral Technician license, HIPPA Compliance license, and Safety Care license. I also worked on prompting and fading, speech issues, and everyday needs to help these children integrate into daily life. All of my children across my 2 years ranged from 2-17 years old which required me to work with parents and supervisors to get these children to accomplish behavioral, educational, and social goals.
Biology

Biology

I have taken numerous biological science and neuroscience classes at the University of Central Florida, where I have obtained my BS in Clinical Psychology. Also, I am currently a nursing student in clinical rotations where I have an adept knowledge of biological, physiological, and anatomical subject areas. I have had 5+ years where I have developed my professional knowledge of the biological sciences and have taken various subjects that require an abundance of knowledge in the sciences, including biology.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

Alongside being a child behavior therapist which allowed me to tutor my clients on their elementary schoolwork, I also was a tutor for an Elementary School for three years. I was tasked with reporting to the school during after-school hours and being matched with a child who needed instruction on subjects they were having a hard time in. I worked on a variety of subjects with them such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, science, math, and grammar. The school made sure every month that we were up to date on curriculum and lesson plans. I would receive a copy of lesson plans ranging anywhere from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade to give high-quality tutoring. I also would focus on improving their attentiveness and ability to understand homework instructions, which prepared them for the classroom.
Nursing

Nursing

I am currently in my second year of nursing school and have maintained a stellar GPA in an accelerated degree program. This experience has given me extensive expertise in teaching a variety of nursing subjects through lectures, skills practice, and hands-on clinical experience. I am highly knowledgeable in Fundamentals of Nursing, including both lecture content and clinical skills (Dean’s List semester), and I have experience assisting with skills labs and lecture preparation for Medical-Surgical Nursing I. Additionally, I am well-versed in basic pharmacology and can support students in memorizing trade and generic drug names, as well as understanding drug classes, side effects, contraindications, and essential patient education.
Special Needs

Special Needs

As a Registered Behavioral Technician, I was allowed to work with several different types of children beyond ASD. These children often were diagnosed with ASD along with other disabilities that include Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, and other genetic disorders. This meant I would work closely with them on improving their autonomy, and behavioral skills, and tending to their hygiene and well-being. This was authorized since I was a board-certified Registered Behavioral Technician, and was certified in Safety Care aswell. These children usually were 5-12 years of age and severely disabled and needed the utmost attention and care by me. I also would split my time traveling to our special needs school and work as a substitute teacher while I dealt with a classroom of around 12 children who all had several different disabilities.
