With a Bachelor's Degree from Berklee College of Music, I have been in many positions in the music industry. I worked as a voice teacher in a music school in Singapore, a concert producer for the Stop Asian Hate movement, a record producer for Japanese artists, a headlining performer, a background singer and so much more.

What I teach my students in music is the work ethic and attitude needed to succeed as a musician. Whether you want to sing or write songs, you have to DO THE WORK! Music is a language, and its vocabulary is developed through your own practice. Therefore, my teaching method is centered around building your musical vocabulary so you can express the sound from the bottom of your heart. It is a PRACTICE! Students who study with me will leave with a thick portfolio full of work and recordings they can use for any sort of applications.

In all my classrooms, I emphasize ear training. Music is meant to be heard and listened. Even though Beethoven went deaf, because he had such a strong foundation of sounds and notes, he can hear the music in his head. My students all walk away with the ability to hear music in their minds. In MUSIC THEORY, students will play the lesson materials on an instrument to internalize the feeling and sensation of harmony. Not only will they know the terminologies, they will be able to identify chords by ear when I play them on the piano. In VOICE LESSONS, I encourage students to observe their voice under different stimuli. They walk away with the ability to balance their head and chest voice. I also ask them to listen to their favorite singers and listen to the different nuance inflections they do whether that is a growl, a crescendo, or a riff and replicate those inflections. In MUSIC PRODUCTION, I require students to listen to other tracks and transcribe and remake the tracks. Just like how a baby learns to talk by listening to adults talk and emulate them, I will teach you how to develop your own musical language.

Ever wonder why Asians score higher on Maths? That is because we learned a much more efficient way to solve the problem. The American way of teaching Algebra is outdated, inefficient and confusing. I was shocked how complicated the formula American teachers teach their students. I will teach you the Chinese way of solving math questions, which will make you score the highest points, the first one to finish your tests in your class and you will feel like a genius. I scored a 800 on the math portion of SAT not because I was a genius, I certainly am not a Math genius in China. It is because I learned the fast and quick way of understanding the question and the best formula to solve that problem. Math is simply a philosophy of understanding the world. If your understanding is skewed, you will not be able to solve the problem. Most students struggle not with calculations or memorizing formulas. They struggle to understand what the question is asking. Many times once the students understand what the question is asking them, they immediately know which formula to use. The rest becomes easy.
Piano

Piano

I am trained in both Jazz and Classical piano since I was six. These two styles requires two different skills. Jazz trained me to be a master in Music harmony and theory. Classical piano trained me to become an excellent sight reader and a perfectionist. I have played in ensembles, bands and orchestras.

Ear Training,

Ear Training

After finishing Berklee College of Music's intensive ear training program, I amassed a wealth of knowledge on how to develop a musicians ear to be able to identify anything from melodies, rhythm to extensive harmony such as secondary dominants, tension, inversion and complex meters. Students walk away with the ability to recall sounds in their heads which can help performers, composers, audio engineer to better understand the nuance of sounds.

Sight Singing,

Sight Singing

I help students develop solid concept of pitch and sounds in their brain by practicing the different modes in western music to be more familiar with chromaticism. Students also walk away with confidence of different rhythms ranging from commonly seen pop rhythms all the way to esoteric poly rhythms. All of my knowledge comes from my education from Berklee College of Music.
Songwriting,

Songwriting

My teaching is separated into two concentrations: lyric writing and music composition. In lyrics writing, I train my students to do sensory writing, which is to write completely using sensory description. This challenged students to feel and transition that feeling into words. All good songs touch us because they make us feel something. Students walk away with the ability to write lyrics in the form of verse-refrain and verse-chorus-bridge. In music composition, students will learn music theory and be familiar with popular chords progression. Students will expand their tonal vocabulary including modulation and modality. Further study of form including the verse, chorus, transitional bridge and the primary bridge will help students develop their narrative.
Voice (Music),

Voice (Music)

Specialize in vocal functional training, I have taught students how to balance and mix their chest and head voice to increase range, agility, volume and emotional delivery through voice exercises I adopted from the Bel Canto and SLS schools. All voice issues stem from the singer's struggle to balance the registers along the musical scale. By having the skill to balance the two registers, singers will find tremendous amount of freedom and color in their voice.
