I love working with students and fostering not only an understanding of the subject material but also an inquisitive nature that asks "what next?" I am excited to help foster a sense of engagement and understanding in all learners. I teach epidemiology, biostatistics, biology, and SAT prep.

As a Data Analyst with an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, I am skilled in Quantitative Data Analysis (experience in R, SPSS, and SAS), Qualitative Analysis, literature review, Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. I love to help students understand the building blocks of public health and epidemiology - from both the social science and data-driven perspectives.

In addition, I have a strong background in helping learners of all levels maximize their success through finding strategies that play to their unique strengths. As a peer academic coach at my undergraduate institution, I worked with peers one on one to promote productive study skills, semester planning strategies, writing capacity, and work-life balance. I continue to put these skills to work with my tutoring students by setting goals and tailoring study plans.

I have found this approach particularly beneficial for test prep. Most recently, I have worked as a tutor for the Student Success and Jobs program at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA tutoring biology, statistics, and SAT prep. This took the form of small group tutoring instruction. I also have worked at summer camps as STEM program director. As someone who loves to tackle "real world" scientific applications, I have always had a passion for finding pertinent and interesting examples that can bring a subject to life.

I chose the public health field because it allows me to draw from multiple disciplines, including biology, government, policy, health, and statistics. I strongly believe that public health approaches can improve the well-being of communities and help everyone achieve their dreams.

Please feel free to reach out with questions. I look forward to working with you!

Biology

Biology

Throughout my undergraduate degree, I completed multiple college-level biology classes, including Cell Biology, Genetics, Principles of Physiology and Development, Evolution, Ecology, and Heredity, Microbiology, Tutor Biology and Oncology, Principles of Experimental Design and Pathogen Genomics. I also worked ten hours a week during the academic year in the Biology department greenhouse, learning about plant care and plant biology. As a science camp counselor, I frequently planned and executed science projects and lessons for kids of all ages. In my current graduate-level coursework in Public Health, I also integrate my biology knowledge to promote population health. Currently, I also work as a Biology tutor for the Student Success & Jobs program at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA.
Biostatistics

Biostatistics

I am a Data Analyst with Masters of Public Health degree from a top 10 public health graduate school in the U.S. I completed a certificate in Biostatistics & Epidemiology and studied biostatistics coursework throughout undergraduate college. I have also worked in the infectious disease epidemiology field and done multiple quantitative research projects at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Epidemiology

Epidemiology

I completed a MPH with a concentration in epidemiology & biostatistics from a top 10 public health program. I have also worked in the infectious disease epidemiology field and in hospital-based research.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

As someone who completed school through my graduate degree, I am very familiar with the process of standardized testing. I scored above the 90th percentile on my SAT reading section and on the verbal GRE section. I also have experience breaking down the different elements of the test to make the material more approachable and easy to understand. I specialize in helping students understand not only the mechanics of the test, but also how to leverage their own strengths to increase their score. I currently work as a SAT tutor for the Student Success Program affiliated with Brigham & Women's Hospital and have coached students to increase scores 200+ points.
Writing

Writing

As someone who possesses a Graduate degree, I have experience writing at the highest levels and for many different disciplines. This includes scientific writing, creative writing, research papers and reports, and critical essays. I also have experience as a Writing tutor for all ages, child to adult. I like to work with my students to address how to strengthen their writing through refining structure, editing language, or addressing issues with English grammar. In this way, students can transition their skills to other subjects as well.

Knowledgeable and very patient tutor, explains everything very clearly!

I look forward to my sessions with Emma, she's always upbeat and very focused on making sure I'm learning the material. She's highly organized, super responsive, and really great to work with. Emma explains everything really well and very clearly, and makes the subject matter much less intimidating. I feel like she's my guardian angel through epidemiology!

First Mtg a hit!

Meeting with a tutor for the first time and online not knowing what to expect was nerve recking. But right away with Emma we felt comfortable and at ease. My daughter felt she got good feedback and a strong plan in place to help her reach her goal to help improve her SAT score. Emma was attentive, knowledgeable and gave some work for her to complete and then they will review together to pin point any weak areas and help to master them! Very thankful to have found her, so far, 1st meeting and great!

English reading and grammar

Emma is a great teacher and she is very organized. She catches a good point during the lesson and explains to her student and the students understand easily. In my perspective, she teaches and makes student want to learn more about grammar and other kinds of books.

Tutor Review

At first I was very skeptical as I thought that tutoring over a screen would not work out, however, my daughter loved it she says that she was very nice and according to her she provides excellent tutoring, she focuses on what the student needs help on and she is very descriptive in providing this help.
