CBEST

CBEST

My 20 years of teaching experience and success taking and passing the CBEST, brings both the knowledge and the strategies that educators need to succeed. I understand the pressure of high-stakes testing and know how to break down concepts in reading, writing, and math into manageable, easy-to-understand steps. My background as an educator means I not only know the content, but I also know how to teach it effectively—tailoring lessons to different learning styles.
Common Core

Common Core

I have been teaching Elementary School students for 13 years. Most of that time has included teaching students common core skills. I am very familiar with the standards to meet proficiency in common core. I used them to create goals for my students and lessons to build their proficiency.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

In December 2001, I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Elementary Education and a credential to match. I spend countless hours in the classroom working during student teacher under the guidance of a 3rd grade teacher for 8 weeks and a 4th/5th grade teacher for 8 weeks. This followed 4 semesters of instruction on how to teach in the classroom. Since then I have been a substitute teacher in all levels and been a full time classroom teacher in high school and middle school. During summer sessions, I have taught in the elementary classroom. I will start August 2009 in my own 4th grade classroom. I have passed the CSET Multiple subject exams as well as the RICA that tests your skills in teaching reading. I am well qualified to tutor you in your core subjects at any k-8 level. Having taught those 4 years in special education, makes me even more qualified to assist students who have a harder time learning and retaining information and don't want to fall behind.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

For 13 years of my 16 year teaching career, I have taught Math to Elementary School students. My students are in the RSP program and have IEP's. I scaffold and differentiate my instruction so everything is broken down into small pieces and we build to the mastering the skills.
Phonics

Phonics

One of the requirements in getting my credential, was to take a test called the RICA. This is a standardized test that test your skills in teaching and understanding reading instruction. After taking a course related to teaching reading, I took the test and passed. I will confident in being able to teach phonics.

Works Well with Our Son

Christine is a Special Education Resource Teacher. She brings her Special Education Background into the tutor sessions while working with our son who has a learning disability and a problem with focusing. She will repeat steps to make sure he understands what is being asked. She keeps our son on task when he begins to get bored and fidget and play with his eraser, pencil etc. She redirects him back to the lesson. She is firm with him so that he uses the tutoring time effectively. He hates being tutored by his parents but loves working with Christine.

Most Excellent

First, I want to say thanks Christine for all of the help you provided to my son. My son was struggling with his 6th grade math. I found Christine on WyzAnt and I selected her based on price and experience. Aaron failed a chapter test to start out the 4th quarter. So, he was behind the 8 ball to begin with. Christine started tutoring him once and sometimes twice a week. He was able to dig himself out of the hole and ended the quarter with a B. He actually got a 92 on his semester final. Thanks again Christine. We'll definitely call you when 7th grade math starts.
