I specialize in English and Drama, but also have extensive experience in preparing students for tests. I am very comfortable teaching most sciences and math up to high school level. My strengths are that I can quickly analyze a student's learning difficulties and seek ways to surmount these obstacles in order to help them progress with their learning. I am popular with my students and their teachers and parents as I have the innate ability to identify a student's problems and see the disparity between what they are supposed to know and how much they actually comprehend. This puts them at greater ease in their mission to conquer whatever academic or life skill problem they are trying to overcome. After thoroughly researching the needs of the client, I try to draw information out of my students and listen to what they feel comfortable with, and what they find difficult, and proceed from there.
I have had many rich experiences in life, such as working in theater for ten years, writing and directing; living in different parts of the world; working in many varied jobs; which have given me a well rounded view on life and the world. I have also taught students from all walks of life, from those in poor townships in South Africa, to Ivy League-bound teenagers from Pacific Heights. Studying in both England and the US has also informed my learning and teaching skills too, and I am currently studying for my Master's in Secondary Education, to add to my Bachelor's degree in English Literature. I also have a TESOL certification, and am currently a substitute teacher in a number of schools in San Francisco.
