Hi there! My name is Shane and I live in the sunny Thousand Oaks, CA area. I greatly enjoy meeting and tutoring all different kinds of students from around the world on Wyzant!

I specialize in teaching philosophy and ethics, and helping students write high mark and seminal philosophical papers.

I am driven to give students a greater love for wisdom and I enjoy teaching how to evaluate the costs and benefits that accrue when you take up a certain philosophical position.

One of my former ethics student's papers was recommended by his professor to become a sample of excellent writing for the class. In addition to my in-person and online tutoring, I also welcome students to also send me essays for me to provide comments and feedback on.

I have a B.A. in Philosophy from Westmont college and I am very qualified to tutor all different kinds of philosophy.

At Westmont I was the Distinguished vice President of Phi Sigma Tau (Philosophy Honor Society) 2018 with outstanding achievement in academics and community involvement. became proficient in Critical Reasoning and Logic, Epistemology, 19th and 18th Century Philosophy, Philosophy of the Aesthetics, Epistemology, and Free will. I specialized in Free Will and wrote my thesis on Molinism for Senior Seminar. I also have a special interest in Ethics and took a war and reconciliation ethics course in Northern Europe.

I also subject tutor k-9 science, mathematics. I am a current mathematical physics student at Moorpark college (4.0 GPA).

I approach teaching math in a foundational and systematic way that logically builds on the last thing the student has learned. I am passionate about spreading the love of learning and actively engaging kid's natural curiosity and sense of wonder. I apply a socratic method to teaching science and mathematics.

In High school, I was the president of the science club, I have won first place in three science fairs and I have experience teaching at The Discovery Center for Science and Technology.

I am driven to give students a greater love for wisdom and I enjoy teaching how to evaluate the costs and benefits that accrue when you take up a certain philosophical position. I have many hours experience in tutoring philosophy. My approach to teaching philosophy is foundational and progressive. I help the student lay down a fundamental framework of the subject matter and then progressively and systematically build on what the student already knows. I enjoy seeing the student's eyes light up when they start making connections between ideas and are enabled to discover new truth based on what is implied or must be true.

Patient tutor who tries to determine your learning mode.

Shane worked on algebra problems with my son. He came prepared and reviewed problems I had provided him from my son’s math book. He noticed that neatness and completing each step is important for success. Shane is patient and really wants you to succeed.

Great teacher, very patient!

Shane is the best tutor that I have had on Wyzant, he is very kind and willing to work at whatever pace works best for you and I highly recommend him! He is extremely intelligent for his young age, it really amazes me, I hope you all have a chance to work with him eventually, you will not regret it at all!
