Hello! I’m Devan, an experienced tutor with a diverse background in science, medicine, and education. I specialize in tutoring science subjects such as organic chemistry, biology, and general math. I’m particularly skilled in preparing students for medical exams like Step 1 and Step 2, and I also offer tutoring in Spanish or as a second language for students wanting to improve their language skills.
I grew up in Chicago, attended a math and science school, and double-majored and double-minored at NYU in chemistry, environmental biology, theatre (Shakespeare), and environmental studies. Afterward, I worked as an EMT in Oakland and conducted microbiome research at NYU Langone and Stanford Medical School.
Beyond academics, I’ve taught in diverse settings, including working with children in detention centers in NYC, teaching math and science with a focus on hydroponics and aquaponics. I’ve also tutored underserved students outside San Francisco and taught in South America, helping students with math, science, and English in Spanish. These experiences have enhanced my ability to teach students from various backgrounds and adapt to their learning needs.
