I’m Nicolas! I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelors in Economics and minor in Statistics. I have about 4 years of overall experience tutoring all high school math and college math up to Calculus 2, including Statistics and programming in R. My goal as a tutor is to get a student to experience that “lightbulb” moment, where concepts finally click after a period of struggling. My past students have told me that I have done a great job at simplifying concepts and helping them arrive at an answer, and I hope to continue this with future students. I am particularly fond of mathematics as a subject and its applications to the real word, so I enjoy incorporating examples to answer “how is this used in real life?”.
My prior experiences include being teaching assistant at Diablo Valley College, where I supported over 30 students with subjects such as College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. Furthermore, I worked in the DVC Math Lab, where I would tutor tens of students a day through different drop-in sessions. This allowed me to gain exposure to a variety of different questions and learning styles. Alongside this experience, I have privately tutored students, which allowed me to gain the skill of developing lesson plans tailored uniquely to each student.
In each session, I ask questions to determine the student's level of understanding, what resources their classroom/teacher is using, and then explain concepts accordingly. From there, I will allow the student to try a problem on their own and assess understanding before moving on to the next question or module. This prevents the student from having gaps in their knowledge, and has proven to be quite effective in my past experiences.
Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson! I am easy to reach and promise to provide fast responses.
Thank you,
Nicolas
