My name is David and I am an English teacher with a B.A. in English and a Master's in English Literature. In addition, I have completed a teaching credential program. I have over 10 years of tutoring experience working with students of all ages and skill levels. During my time as both an undergrad and a grad student, I worked part-time as a composition tutor for college students. I also worked for 6 months as an ESL tutor in Guatemala teaching children and adults. Most of my teaching experience has been in the Los Angeles area working as an adjunct professor at Cal State L.A. and several community colleges. In addition, I have worked for LAUSD as a middle school and high school English and Social Science teacher.
Owing to my experience assisting students of all levels and diverse backgrounds, I have found that there are no challenges that students cannot overcome in the reading and composition process when the right approach is taken. I am a good listener as well as a quick and sharp reader; thus, I am skillful at helping students improve at any stage of the writing process. My primary approach to tutoring is empowering students with reading and composition skills that will benefit them regardless of the subject or writing style required.
Because of previous experience, I am able to help both individuals and groups with similar assignments in the same 1 hour session. Also, I focus on the requirements and assignment prompts given by teachers to ensure that students achieve great success in their courses. Lastly, I should emphasize that I do not write essays for students, working instead as a vigilant 'co-pilot' for their developmental benefit.
