About Anthony

I earned my Math degree from San Diego State University and Master's from Cal State Fullerton. I've taught math at Bernice Ayer Middle School since 2000 and have been tutoring students since that time as well.

The best part of tutoring is the personal attention that I'm able to give students. Watching them develop into confident students is my main focus.

As a local, certified teacher, I'm kept abreast of all current district trends and expectation. I will have access to the same resources your teacher will distribute, ensuring you are learning exactly what the school district intends you to understand.

Feel free to contact me to learn more and schedule lessons.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I've been teaching and tutoring Algebra since 2000. In that time I've helped struggling students achieve higher scores and top students stay at the top. Students leave my lessons feeling more confident and prepared for class.

Algebra 2

I hold a degree in math and have worked as a math teacher since 2000.

Basketball

While I never played on a formal basketball team, I did play in several men's leagues over the years. I've been playing the game on a regular basis for over 20 years and am an avid student of the game. I thoroughly understand offensive and defensive schemes as well as as all fundamentals of the game including shooting, passing, ball handling, rebounding, and many other aspects of the game. In short, I love basketball and embrace the opportunity to share my passion with those that are eager to learn more about it.

CBEST

I feel I am qualified to tutor students to prepare for the CBEST test primarily because I passed the test myself with little effort. While it's true I was a math major, I didn't have to use any of my advanced knowledge to pass the test. All I needed were some simple understandings of math topics and lots of Number Sense.

For many, the math portion of the test is the most challenging. As a math teacher I've acquired many methods to help students learn and retain math skills. I'll be ready to help you pass the test on your first attempt.

Since 2000 I've taught more than 2500 students. I've worked with a full range of skills and deficits.

As a math tutor I've worked with hundreds of students ranging from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus. I enjoy the one-on-one attention tutoring brings over the classroom setting.

Elementary Math

I've worked as a math teacher at a Middle School in San Clemente since 2000. In that time I've worked with thousands of students and tutored hundreds. I enjoy working with students and helping them make sense of the interesting language of elementary math.

GED

I've worked as a teacher since 2000. In that time I've helped dozens of adults prepare for the GED through our school districts' adult education program.

General Computer

I've been working with computers since 1991. In that time I've repaired them and built some for friends. As a math student I took several computer programming courses and acquired a fair knowledge of Javascript, HTML, and CSS.

As a teacher I've worked with students young and old to learn skills suck as word processing and spreadsheet calculations.

Homeschool

As a math teacher, I've worked with thousands of students at every skill level. In the classroom I created teaching strategies that would engage all learners. I also helped develop curriculum for our school district to target grade level standards. My tenure as department chair gave me the perspective of district-level objectives and coordinating those objectives across several grade levels.

Microsoft Excel

I've been using Excel to teach math topics for several years. I can teach you the skills I teach my math students to make calculations, organize information, and analyze data.

Microsoft PowerPoint

As a math teacher, I use Microsoft PowerPoint on a daily basis to create and deliver my lessons to students. Animations, sound, video, online polling, and distribution are among the many features I use to create engaging presentations. Leveraging the power of this technology, I'm able to reach every student even if they couldn't make it to class.

Photography

I've worked for several years as a semi-professional photographer. Sports and family portraits have been my focus, as well as helping others navigate the complications of today's DSLR to capture spectacular images.

Prealgebra

I hold a degree in mathematics, and have taught math pre-algebra since 2000 at the middle school level. Outside of the school-day I've also tutored dozens of students in pre-algebra. After years of practicing teaching and tutoring I believe I have the skills to not only show pre-algebra students the answer to their math problems, but I can also teach them in a way that will be memorable an meaningful.
