Hi! My name is Jillian Berry, and I’m a PhD student in Neuroscience at the University of California, Irvine. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience with a concentration in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University and hold a Minnesota teaching license in science. Before graduate school, I worked as a neuroscience researcher, taught science and math at the high school and middle school level, and tutored students from Pre-K through college.
I have extensive experience tutoring students of all abilities, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other developmental disabilities. My background in neuroscience has equipped me with a strong understanding of how the brain learns, which allows me to develop strategies that help students not only succeed in their classes but also gain confidence as learners. Beyond subject tutoring, I also support students with study skills, organization, test-taking strategies, and reading and writing skills.
My approach is patient, encouraging, and flexible, with a focus on tailoring lessons to each student’s unique learning style. I understand how challenging it can be to learn new or difficult material, and my goal is always to find ways to make concepts click by connecting them to real-world examples, interactive strategies, or a student’s personal interests.
I tutor a wide range of classes, from early elementary through college-level courses. I specialize in math and science—from foundational skills through calculus—and also help students prepare for standardized tests such as the ACT, SAT, PSAT, and GED. Every session is carefully prepared in advance to ensure time is used effectively and learning feels engaging and relevant.
Most importantly, I am committed to meeting each student where they are and helping them grow into confident, capable learners. Whether your child needs support catching up, excelling beyond grade level, or learning how to manage school more effectively, I will provide the guidance, encouragement, and expertise to help them succeed.
