Hi, I'm George! I'm currently an undergraduate at UCI, studying Biological Sciences and minoring in Computer Science.
Throughout my educational career, I've come to realize that a focus on the grade result of my effort while learning has greatly diminished my personal intellectual interests and, paradoxically, my grades. It was only when I started learning for the sake of learning and understanding the content from an academic standpoint that I rediscovered my love for my academic interests. Only as a plus did that philosophy also raise my grades.
Given this realization, during my opportunities to tutor/teach peers or underclassmen, I've always tried prioritizing a true understanding of the content on a fundamental level, while also encouraging curiosity to further the learner's own intellectual pursuits.
I currently volunteer as a Biology tutor at my college, tutoring freshmen in the intro to biology course. I work in smaller group sessions (2-6 students) during my office hours and hold review sessions with my co-tutors before major exams (usually with >100 students). I also frequently extend my help to peers in classes, which, over the course of my college career, has led me to teach others on topics such as chemistry, organic chemistry, calculus, and more effective studying methods based on neuroscience, more formal logic-based thinking, and research advice, all of which are subjects I can confidently teach.
It is my wish to support my students and work towards helping them succeed as much as possible. As such, I am open to any suggestions, comments, concerns, or similar feedback. Additionally, I am always open to free discussion sessions to discuss your goals and explore how I can assist you.
I am easy to contact and respond quickly. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson. I look forward to speaking with you!
