I am a licensed speech therapist and passionate about helping others increase confidence in their speaking, reading, and writing skills. I have a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, with an emphasis in teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). My passion for educating others about language-related subjects grows stronger every day. I enjoy working with students from diverse age groups, from elementary school to working professionals. I specialize in teaching public speaking and debate skills, reading comprehension, analytical writing, phonics, spelling, and introductory linguistics. In addition, I have experience mentoring students with improving English skills, including public speaking, workplace vocabulary, academic writing, and conversational English. I have taught ESL at several organizations including UC Davis, Kaplan Aspect, Education First, and private afterschool tutoring locations. I am fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.

As a freelance tutor, I have years of experience creating my own teaching curriculum to supplement the students' and clients' diverse academic needs. Due to my friendly, patient, and motivating nature, I encourage all my students to enjoy learning and reach their fullest potential. The first session usually involves a mutual assessment of student and tutor; the student assesses my teaching style, and I assess how the student learns most effectively (e.g. using visual aids, audio, handouts) to determine a beneficial mentorship. I value the process of building a strong learning foundation that leads to steady improvement. I can adapt my lesson plans to the length of time that the student desires to be tutored.
