I'm Alison! I completed my California multiple subject teaching credential during the pandemic, achieving a 4.0 GPA - straight A’s. Compared to the college classes I took years ago to complete my Bachelor's Degree of Philosophy at UCLA, these teaching courses were far more rigorous and demanding!

For the past four years, I've been a teacher (in elementary and high school), and a tutor for countless students - both online and in-person. Some students have come to me for weekly tutoring to learn "missing" math concepts or reading skills spanning years of education. Other students have come to me already performing well, at or above their grade level, in math or reading and writing, just to get that "extra edge" in their education, while others are somewhere in between and simply need the occasional extra support when they get stuck on a particular new skill or concept. I've tutored students with great success in both math and English Language Arts - from the math basics of making 10, to division, fractions, percentages, rounding, measurement, word problems, time, money, mental math, algebra, and more, as well as skills in phonics, reading fluency, comprehension, and writing. I have consistently received high praise in my teaching and tutoring in both math and English Language Arts, from my principals, my peers, and other observing administrators, from my students' parents, and from my students themselves.

The most rewarding part of what I do is seeing a student grasp a new concept or skill we've been working on - their positive reaction and sense of accomplishment along with their increased motivation to tackle the next challenge with a greater sense of perseverance when it gets difficult. I love equipping students with the skills they need to achieve their goals; I'm passionate about making a positive impact in others' lives and I look forward to helping you achieve your goals! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I enjoy making Algebra 1 clear, approachable, and relevant by connecting math concepts to real-life situations. I have a strong foundation in mathematics and use problem-solving skills daily in both academic and practical settings. My tutoring style focuses on building confidence, simplifying complex ideas, and helping students find joy in mastering algebra. I strive to make each lesson engaging, supportive, and tailored to the individual learner’s needs.
Common Core

Common Core

I hold a current California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I have taught Common Core math and ELA in public and charter schools in California. I tutor students using Common Core standards-aligned curricula and reference the grade-level standards and expectations to ensure complete skill proficiency and mastery.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a California multiple subject teaching credential for all elementary grades (kindergarten through sixth) and taught at public school and a charter school. My credential can be found by searching my name on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (ctc.gov). I have taught 1st grade and 4th grade in elementary, and substituted in 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades - while tutoring most extensively for 4th grade.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

With a love of math myself, I have been tutoring elementary math for 5 years (both in-person and online) and strive to make learning math enjoyable and rewarding. I currently have an elementary teaching credential in California and have experience working with students with IEPs, 504s, and other challenges. I would be a patient and supportive instructor for your needs!
Reading

Reading

I use a structured, multisensory approach to reading (Orton-Gillingham inspired), which includes the Barton Reading & Spelling System. I work with students of all reading levels, from beginners to advanced, to improve their comprehension, expression, and phonics skills. For students who are behind or struggling with reading, I recommend two or more hours of tutoring per week in addition to regular homework.
Writing

Writing

Written communication is invaluable and distinct from the way we usually speak, making clear and compelling writing a challenge. Whether you need help with sentences, paragraphs, essays, or other specific types of writing, I can help. I specifically examine structure, grammar, and word choice, emphasizing the importance of rereading and revising until the written message flows naturally and powerfully.
