Hello, I'm Chris! I am a lifelong musician with extensive experience performing and teaching. I studied classical piano at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in high school, and then at the University of California Santa Barbara. After UCSB I toured with a band and picked up a love for popular music in many genres. This is when I realized that in order to tap the passion and inspiration which makes learning and playing music so wonderful, you have to identify what kind of work a student is most excited about! Hence, the benefits of learning fundamentals under more rigorous instruction and the wonder of exploring multiple genres are what inform my teaching style. I noticed that even under world-class professors, I would always respond better to the material that I loved most. So when I start with someone I celebrate the process of discovering material that encourages and facilitates the hard work required to improve musicianship - all according to the individual needs of each student.

I have a highly dynamic background, so I teach in many musical disciplines. With work experience as an accompanist, performer, recording engineer, songwriter, producer, and film composer I am well-suited for teaching in a modern music environment. My instruction style is 1 on 1, and I have had students of all ages ranging from 6-60 for about 5 years now. I also have experience teaching a blind student - one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Compassion, kindness and optimism are what has worked for me in the past, so I pay that forward to my students. Additionally, I have recently been instructing in modern digital tools like Pro Tools, Ableton, and other music-creation software - a vital aspect of the current musical landscape.

Discovering the love of music is a wonderful journey, so I enjoy actively discovering new ways to make it a reality for people. My line is always open to start a dialogue with students or parents regarding the needs, techniques, or resources which may be relevant. If you have any questions or wish to

Skilled, patient, and FUN!

Christopher is a great piano instructor. We had the fortune of having our 8-year old work with Chris and after just one lesson, he was hooked and wanted to continue studies and practices. Chris clearly knows how to work with kids. There is no doubt about Chris's skills, but what I really liked the most was his enthusiasm during the lesson and bringing our son along with his excitement. He was patient when things didn't go well which made our son patient as well and wanting to keep trying to fix the mistakes.

Patient, kind, and energetic!

Christopher was very patient, knowledgeable, and super energetic/excited about music with my son - all amazing traits in a piano tutor. My son is autistic, and Christopher was able to work with him in an effective, friendly manner that made our son feel comfortable. Though we have only worked with Christopher a few weeks so far, he and our son have gotten comfortable learning from and working with each other. We would absolutely recommend Christopher as he is punctual, kind, and can work well with special needs children and adults alike. We are thankful to have found him through Wyzant!

Fantastic and patient teacher

Christopher has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to music theory and its application. He immediately pointed me in the right direction and provided the right set of tools to keep me motivated and be able to confidently practice between sessions. I highly recommend him to any aspiring students who wish to break through and learn or refine their skills.

Wonderful music tutor!

Christopher was very patient and knowledgeable! He definitely worked well with me and my music theory needs. Though we only worked together for a short amount of time, I learned so much within those few weeks. When it came time for my final exam for music, I felt prepared and ready to go. I would for sure recommend Christopher to anyone who is struggling with music theory or something as such. I am very thankful for my time with him.

I’ve met with Christopher for about two months and have definitely done a lot better in understanding the material in AP music theory. Christopher is very thorough with his explanations and makes sure I understand whatever I’m struggling with! He’s very patient, kinda, and friendly.

Keyboard Synthesizer and Amplifier Speaker adjustments

Christopher is really knowledgable on how to make adjustments to different parameters in your keyboard/synthesizer and amplifier/speaker to get the best sound out of them or a specific sound you want out of them. I hired Christopher to teach me how to get a real acoustic piano sound out of my Roland Fantom 8 keyboard/synthesizer/work station. Our first meeting we went over how to adjust the EQ parameters like the chorus, reverb, volume/decibels and frequencies for low/mid/high tones, and special effects. This really increase my knowledge of how to get the type of sound I want from the piano, synthesizer, and other different instruments. I was so impressed with his knowledge I will continue taking lessons from him. He also understands the functional purposes of sound engineering. If you want to be more creative in the sound that you produce for your music Christopher is your guy. I highly recommend him!
