Beginner sessions:
In my beginner sessions, I teach students the theory behind note reading and rhythm. These will serve as the building blocks for sight-reading and learning any piece you desire. We place an emphasis on learning plenty of pieces to increase exposure to various key signatures and notes in order to greatly enhance your sight-reading ability. We place an emphasis on learning plenty of pieces to increase exposure to various key signatures and notes in order to greatly enhance your sight-reading ability. You will find significant improvement in your sight-reading and technique if you submit to the idea of practicing my strategies consistently and with the proper level of patience.

Intermediate to Advanced Lessons:
These are the lessons where I help add skills to your repertoire. Many students coming in from prior teachers will find that they have the ability to play difficult pieces, but will be unable to sight-read pieces on the spot. This is where I come in, adding to your knowledge of scales, arpeggios, and other techniques, as well as how to refine your understanding of sight-reading to ultimately sight-read pieces near your level. It will be a difficult adjustment at first, but if you commit to the concepts of sight-reading consistently and counting, you will gradually see growth in your playing.

About me:
Hello everybody! My name is Andrew N. and I have received my bachelor's degree in Business Administration from UC Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business. I have been always been exposed to piano for the majority of my life. My older sister started taking lessons which in turn inspired me to take lessons starting in 5th grade. To this day, I continue to take piano lessons myself because there is always a new skill or piece you can learn on the piano. So no matter how long you've been taking lessons or are just starting out, there will always be something I can teach you to greatly enhance your ability to read music.

-Four years of piano teaching experience

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I am a recent UCI graduate from Paul Merage's School of Business, with an emphasis in accounting. This business program only admits 300 students annually and is highly selective. I have been tutoring students since I was 18 and have worked with students with various learning disabilities. Working with various types of learners has helped me develop an uncanny sense of patience as well as the adaptability to teach using multiple teaching styles. I have learned up to Calculus B/C so my fundamentals in basic concepts such as algebra and trigonometry are sturdy. Algebra happened to be my favorite subject back in middle school and I'm glad that I took a liking to it, because I still use it in everyday life to this day.

I am a recent UCI graduate from Paul Merage's School of Business, with an emphasis in accounting. This business program only admits 300 students annually and is highly selective. I have been tutoring students since I was 18 and have taught every kind of student, ranging from students with learning disabilities such as autism and ADHD. Working with various types of learners has helped me develop an uncanny sense of patience as well as the adaptability to teach using multiple teaching styles. After working with me for a few weeks, they become excited to learn math, and they are comfortable asking questions essential to learning. Asides from grade improvements, (two of my students have improved their test grades by 20%), they have also gained tremendous confidence in their math abilities as well as the courage to ask questions.
Grammar

Grammar

Currently, I am a college student studying accounting, and majoring in business administration. I have tutored fellow classmates and friends at the high school and middle school level before at my school. Thus, I am comfortable teaching younger kids elementary math.
Piano

Piano

I graduated from UCI this year, and I know advanced repertoire such as Chopin's Op. 10 No.4 and Liebestraum (Love Dream). I've been teaching piano since I was 18, and I currently still continue to take lessons myself to enhance my ability to teach and play. My passion lies in learning anime piano arrangements; there's something special about watching an anime and being able to learn the music pieces that move my heart. Currently, I have passed my certificate of merit level 8 for piano. When it comes to music theory, I am also well versed in teaching Certificate of Merit concepts, and am able to teach from levels 1-10. The students that I have taught range from young elementary school students to high school students, both in-person and remotely.

A tutor with equanimity and intelligence

I’ve always enjoyed playing the piano, however, without the right tutor this instrument can seem impossible to play. Thankfully, Andrew was able to elucidate concepts that other tutors failed to do. For instance, I thought I couldn’t sight read music but Andrew showed me tricks, terminology, and explained the meaning of what’s on the page. Another example of his exceptional tutoring skills is how he is able to show me how to properly play complicated concepts such as arpegios, scales in contrary motion, finger crossings, octaves, and chords. As a result, I can now sightread what’s on sheet music without the need of writing in the letters and I can play music on the piano without my fingers getting twisted up like a pretzel. Overall, similar to the way Siskel and Ebert gave two thumbs up for a movie they liked, I give Andrew two thumbs up for being an excellent piano tutor.
