After graduating with my Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), I started teaching ESL at several community colleges in the Southern California region. Ever since, I have gained knowledge and experience in developing students' language skills. I am a seasoned tutoring professional with nearly 20years of experience teaching reading and writing to children and adult learners. I am skilled in customizing lesson plans to student age (pre-K – college age and beyond) and ability levels, with a passion for nurturing confidence, curiosity, and creative thinking. Enlightened by my own journey in writing, I build student success through structured, step-by-step instruction that fosters both competence and enthusiasm for language arts. I have tutored children and adults alike, in all kinds of subjects, including but not limited to: English, essay writing, spelling and vocabulary, phonics, reading comprehension, math, history, philosophy, geography, civics, and Spanish. Of course with my TESOL background, my niche is in the language arts. However, I am adept at helping in most K-12 subjects.

My strengths lie in meeting students where they are and building self-confidence so they can reach their full academic potential. I know how frustrating it can be to not understand a concept and to almost feel trapped, like there's no way out. So, I prioritize compassion, patience, and problem-solving in my tutoring approach. I am available to tutor via Zoom or in-person. Either setting can be beneficial, depending on student needs. In 2018, I earned my IOTL (Introduction to Online Teaching and Learning) certificate and have a wealth of online teaching materials to pull from, if need be. In any case, it is my hope to connect and help you discover a love of learning!

Accent Reduction

Accent Reduction

In my 10 plus years of teaching experience, I have worked with ESL students to help them reduce their accents while still maintaining their native language identity. In 2019, I taught an Accent Reduction class at College of the Canyons. Additionally, over the years, I have worked privately with students. My approach involves pinpointing areas of weakness, such as vowel awareness, to enhance intelligibility and fluency.

In addition to my title as "ESL Instructor," I also stepped into the "Citizenship Coordinator" role in our ESL program at San Diego Community College District. As coordinator, I am in charge of being the lead instructor, meaning that I stay updated with USCIS protocol changes, Form N-400 changes, and anything else involved in the application and naturalization process. I have taught over 20 Citizenship classes, many of which are held in fully online class format. I know what it takes to prepare my students to pass their naturalization interviews!
