Just some information on me and my language background:

I am a graduate from the University of Arizona, majoring in East Asian Studies. That major included a focus on the Japanese language and culture, as well as a Minor in Mandarin Chinese. I have been studying the Japanese Language for 10 years now, and 4 of the years include a formal university-level education, 2 of them being in Japan.

I lived and studied in Saitama, Japan for 6 months, graduating from the Japanese Studies Program at Tokyo International University in the Fall of 2012.

I later worked as an ESL (English as a second language) Teacher in both Elementary and Junior High Schools; 5th-9th grade; in Japan. While I was there, I taught ESL classes as well as cultural classes. I also selected and coached 4 students in a city-wide English speech contest where 2 of my students placed 1st and 2nd in their divisions.

My career path is focused on teaching English and Japanese as second languages, as well as encouraging studying abroad during higher education. I have also completed a minor in Mandarin Chinese, which means I have 2 formal years of study. I also speak basic level Korean and Spanish.

I believe that language is a strong, lucrative tool in today's society. Not only does it improve one's credentials in the competitive job market; highlighting you over others; but it also allows one to expand his/her mind by making the cultures of other nations accessible. It is a social tool that enables a person to be able to work well with others in an array of environments, including multicultural.

On top of it all, learning a language is fun. I truly truly love it, and I believe that anyone who sets their mind to it, with the proper tools and resources, can do it. Whether that just be some survival phrases for your upcoming vacation (which Ive done) or you're looking to master the language. That is what I am here for. I want to be a resource for students of ALL ages, and assist and support them in their language journey.

From a teaching standpoint I believe that lessons should be interactive and fun. I worked with incoming college freshman as a mentor, working with my colleagues to organize and execute fun and educational events that would encourage the students to get excited about learning. I actively created games and fun interactive activities and worksheets for my younger students in Japan. The best learning is the kind you do without realizing it. I also keep in mind that while I may be their teacher, we are learning together. Naturally, the mechanics must be covered first.

I am comfortable teaching all ages, and no previous knowledge in the language is required, as I am willing to start from scratch with the student. I have experience working with students in their 40's who want to learn for work and those who want to learn for a vacation. I have experience working with current college students who want to learn Japanese because it's a hobby. I have experience working with young students between 8-15, who take lessons with me after school because the language interests them! And I have experience helping a student complete an assignment or prepare for a single test. No matter who you are, I can help you achieve your goals!

If you have any questions regarding more details of my language background, my teaching experience, or any of the other subjects I am available to tutor, please do not hesitate to contact me!

I taught ESL classes in both a Japanese Junior high school-- all grades 7th-9th-- and a Japanese Elementary School for grades 5th and 6th. I did occasional "cultural fun classes" for the younger students (1-4) on holidays like Halloween, Christmas, thanksgiving, etc. I also auditioned, selected, and coached 4 students (7th-9th graders) in their City-wide English speech contest. The 9th and 8th grader placed 1st and 2nd in their age group.

I am a graduate from the University of Arizona, majoring in East Asian Studies. That major included a focus on the Japanese language and culture, as well as a Minor in Mandarin Chinese. I have been studying the Japanese Language for 9 years now, and 4 of the years include a formal university-level education, 2 of them being in Japan as a student and then Teacher. I lived and studied in Saitama, Japan for 6 months, graduating from the Japanese Studies Program at Tokyo International University in the Fall of 2012. I then worked as an ESL (English as a second language) Teacher in both Elementary and Junior High Schools; 5th-9th grade; in Japan. As I myself am a native English speaker who learned Japanese, I am very familiar with the most effective ways to approach learning the subject. Learning Japanese is super fun. Whether you just want to learn a few survival phrases for a vacation, want to be fluent, or maybe just because you like anime and want to be able to watch a show without subtitles! No matter your reason, I can help you get there :)

Being an active ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, I work with students from ages 5 to 18 to teach them reading and writing from the ground up. Doing so has given me a thorough understanding of the best ways to approach reading difficulties. Some of these methods include: repetition, phonics, story time and acting, painting words and images.

So helpful and flexible

Thanks to her flexibility so I can catch my due on time. Her proofread skill is so useful especially for ESL. She also helped me with my flow and choice of wording.

Very friendly and very smart

She’s very friendly and very smart! We talked many things but she is a good listener. She speaks very clearly and she is very good at teaching. I really enjoyed the lesson and the time just went so fast.

Knowledgeable, patient, and sweet tutor

I found Jahara luckily and she was the best person for what I was looking for. I needed to get “don't overthink it” translated to Japanese and she gave me more knowledge than I imagined. She has such knowledge and passion for the language that it was such a great experience. I know it might not seem like a big deal but those words mean a lot to me and she taught me different ways and meanings to write it and Japanese is such a complex and beautiful language that I felt like staying longer and learning so much more. Thank you so much Jahara! Totally recommend, 100%.

A Great Tutor

I do appreciate her quick response and cooperation. She helped me in few hours and did not charge me extra even though she spent more time than she told me. Look forward to working with her in the future.
