Hello, my name is Alexis and I am recent graduate of Arizona State University where I have earned a BA in Painting from the Herberger School of Art and Design. Before I write about why I want to tutor I think it is important to know about the art I create and what art exactly means to me. The work I create focuses heavily on exploring the relationships I experience with my friends, my family, and myself, so in other words what I am surrounded by influences my art. My main mediums include watercolor, charcoal, and oil paint, but I can work with others mediums as well. I can assist a student in the improvement of their work with technical skill and also a level of critical thinking toward the decisions they make with their art. These decisions are just as important as the technical ability to make the art. With younger artists I can give prompts and guide them with different ideas about what exactly they would like to create. It is important to explore the interests of young artists because the art they create is a piece of themselves. Fine art, illustration, comic book art and character design are all on the same level of importance to me.
My approach to tutoring is to listen to the desires of the student and meet the goals they make for themselves. Depending on the age of the student I am tutoring my method of approaching the goals they want to meet changes. Elementary students will be guided with prompts and technical skill practices. What this entails includes projects that I create from a student's areas of interest or continued help with art projects from school. Middle school students are able to communicate a higher level of thinking and technical skills, meaning their prompts will be more fitted to their interests. These students will be able to choose the mediums they prefer to use and the subjects they want to address. We might look into artists they may enjoy and recreate their works, or be inspired by an artist's particular technique or use of medium. High school students will be encouraged to have
