Hello! My name is Robin! I am a career educator and learner and work in a public school district serving first graders! I hold a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Reading Curriculum and Instruction. I have 22 years of experience teaching which includes 15 year in kindergarten, 5 years in first grade, 1 year in third Grade and 1 year in reading resource. I was also an owner and director of a preschool for 10 years early on in my career. I hold a teaching certificate for K-8th grade which also includes a Structured English Endorsement PreK-12 and an Early Childhood Endorsement Birth-age 8. I am also currently working on my Gifted Endorsement. My experience in tutoring includes 8 years in the public school system along side of tutoring privately for 2 years. These tutoring situations have included both online and in-person tutoring. Additionally, I have served as an English Language teacher for an online Chinese company.

I believe that every child is an amazing learner with a unique set of skills. Any child can become a successful reader, mathematician, or writer with the right set of tools for his or her learning style. My job as a tutor is to identify and teach the tools that each unique learner needs to be successful.

Being a good mathematician requires a combination of several skills. In the early grades this includes number sense, number fluency, understanding the operations of addition and subtraction or multiplication and division, and last but not least, understanding a problem. As an early elementary tutor, I work to identify those weak areas and provide support and instruction along with many opportunities to practice all these math skills in problem solving situations. My goal as a tutor, is teach students the skills they need to become independent problem solvers.

Learning to read requires 5 Big skills all working together at the same time. Learners first must be phonemically aware which happens as babies as they begin to make sounds and form words
