ADHD,

ADHD

My understanding and experience with ADHD goes beyond my professional scope and into my personal life. I have not only learned how ADHD impacts learning, but also everyday life. I have studied many of Dr David Nowell’s and Cindy Goldrich’s work with ADHD. I understand had ADHD impacts executive functioning, processing speed, working memory, inhibiting, planning, choosing, and prioritizing. I have experienced great success with my student’s with ADHD by further understanding their processing patterns, behavior patterns, and interest patterns. I understand how both kinesthetic and multimodal learning opportunities with combined systematic organization empowers learners to also better understand how they learn best. I am familiar with helpful accommodations for students with ADHD and how to shift in and out of modification/accommodations as needed. My goal for all of my students is intrinsic motivation; I understand how my children are often waiting for moments to pass; I aim to help my students form positive moments and memories to instill passion and confidence in their educational experience. I have experienced that once my student’s ADHD are able to feel in control of their education that reluctance subsides and evidence of intrinsic motivation begins.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Teaching students with Autism is part of a typical day for me. I am comfortable and experienced with both teaching students with Autism in person and virtually. I understand the many challenges that this presents my students. As an SLP, I understand how to integrate the just right level of language and how to use both my language and my prosody to communicate best for each individual. I understand how sensory processing often times interacts with auditory processing and working memory. I strive to empower my students and their parents to better understand how to integrate all of these components so that the student can retain and understand new knowledge. I understand how to use visual, auditory, and how to cue tactile cues for learning. I have tested many students with Autism for social and pragmatic language delays and I understand how this impacts our tutoring sessions. Furthermore, I understand the varying level of severity and complexities with this diagnosis and how to adjust my teaching style to best suite each individual.

Dyslexia

I have 12+ years’ experience working with children who are struggling readers. I have completed continuing education units in the areas of language and literacy throughout my career. I have completed many evaluation reports participating in the diagnosis of dyslexia. I understand that a student with dyslexia scores high on many areas of language, but low in phonics and comprehension. The students also often times struggle with memory and auditory processing. I have also attended IEP meetings for dyslexia and participated in writing accommodation for dyslexia. I LOVE teaching right brain learners because these students are right brain learners. As a trained SLP, I map a child's language as I am speaking with them, I understand their linguistic construct and how to adjust my style to individualize my tutoring sessions. I understand the power of confidence, attention, and teaching to a child's strengths. Growing up I always knew that I wanted to work with special needs children and adults. My mother was my role model and the best special education teacher I have ever known. My mother taught me that if Ican love a child, that I can help them. I have never found this to fail me. I truly connect with my students and feel honored to be part of their journey. I have yet to find a student that I can't teach. I am fascinated by the mind and spirit of all of my students. I worked as a Speech Language Pathologist exclusively in the area of Pediatrics for over 10 years. I am trained in helping children with many diagnoses including by not limited to: ASD, Downs Syndrome, TBI, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, Dyslexia, hearing impairment, autism.

Speech

I have obtained a Master’s degree in Communication Disorders where I have completed many courses where I was required to master skills in public speaking, influential speaking, and basic counseling communication styles. Not only have I a great deal of knowledge in being a presenter and speaker myself, but I worked as a fulltime SLP for 10+ years. When a child is preparing for a presentation I am able to provide visual organizers and a fun learning style to help make the presentation clear, organized, and fun, As a language expert, I am able to use the language that is appropriate for the child and help to reiterate information in a new way. I find that many children who seek out speech tutoring have articulation or fluency concerns and require guidance on how to pronounce words clearly and how to be fluent. . The most common types of speech tutoring sessions I have conducted focus on speech clarity, speech style, and enhancing overall communication. With my trained ear, I am able to easily pick up on speech disturbances so that I can effectively provide individualized speech tutoring sessions.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor!

Megan has helped my son gain the skills he needs to read. My son is very shy and she was able to get him out of his shell and is a wonderful tutor. I highly recommend!

Goes above and beyond!

We are so thrilled to have found Megan. Our son has a complex profile and we really needed someone who would want to learn more about our son and his individual needs. We needed someone who would want to figure out what would help our son best and what he truly needed. Well, we found that with Megan. We feel so blessed to have her on our son's team through this journey. She has researched the different needs of my son, she has been very thoughtful about what would help him best and she really thinks about some "outside the box" ideas that would benefit him. She has also communicated with us every step of the way. I couldn't be happier and I would highly highly recommend Megan to anyone. Oh and my son adores her! Which says a lot when you have a boy who would love nothing more than to avoid anything having to do with "school".

Amazing tutor

My 7 seven year old daughter is on the spectrum and struggles with reading and paying attention / staying engaged in classes. Megan enters her world and finds ways to catch her attention while also thinking about how J uniquely learns and processes. She's been tutoring for a few weeks and I'm so impressed.

Fun and very helpful

Megan has been working with my kid for almost 3 weeks. She is always on time, very attentive, knows the kids' needs and can find the right approach to any kid. My child always looks forward to have a lesson with her, she is learning through games and tasks, she is making the progress by day. I would recommend Megan to anyone who is in need of a good therapist.

Amazing Tutor

Meg is amazing! She has made a profound difference working with our two sons, ages 7 and 14. Our boys have different speech challenges and in each case Meg has tailored an approach specific to the child with tremendous success. She is always thorough, keeps us completely informed, and is truly passionate about her work. We are so grateful to have found Meg on Wyzant, and we would not hesitate to endorse her to other families.

Great start

Our son is very capricious and it’s very hard to get him engaged in discussion during lessons but Mrs. Megan has found a way to make him happy and exited during the lesson. She also came with a good plan on how to keep him practice the homework. Great teacher...
