I am a certified reading specialist and also a former classroom teacher in elementary school. I have two Masters Degrees, one in social work and one in early childhood education. I also have certification of advanced study in reading. I worked for 10 years as a family social worker in a variety of settings before switching over to the education field 14 years ago. I have worked as a SPED assistant, taught 2nd and 3rd grade, and worked with students of all ages in reading. I have worked as a private tutor in reading for two years. I also have 7 children ranging in age from 3-23, boys and girls, some of whom have had learning issues particularly in regard to ADD. I believe this also gives me an added perspective as a parent on the diversity of needs and personalities children possess. I also currently provide reading workshops for parents and teachers helping to foster prereading skills in young children through fun interactive learning. I pride myself on creating interesting lessons that cover all learning styles and needs. My former students and I have shared a great rapport and warm working relationships. I focus on each child as an individual and try to foster strengths, work through weaknesses and restore or ignite a lifelong love of learning.
