About Rich:

Hi! My name is Rich. I'm a drummer, musician, recording engineer, and student. I live in Boca Raton. I've been playing drums for many years in various bands and styles. I've been working in recording studios for about two years and know a lot about both home and professional recording, producing, computer music, and those sorts of things. I worked as an in-house graphic artist for a little over a year for a company and I am very familiar with Photoshop... as you can see, I am a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, like many of the tutors on this site. I have experience teaching drums and teaching music technology to adults, but I'd be glad to teach kids, too. I would love to hook up with students for regular drum lessons, and would be happy to give an occasional one-time music workshop, home studio setup, or Photoshop tutorial. Get in touch with me and let me know a little about what you want to achieve, and I'll let you know if I'm the right person to help you get there!

More On Rich's Subjects:

  • composition (music)

Music composition is the closest category wyzant has to music production, which is really what I focus on. Of course, production is mostly a modern form of composition; you can't be a successful producer if you don't know a thing about how music works. Nevertheless, my focus is more on composing music the way a modern producer works. A producer needs to know a little bit about everything in order to be able to determine what kind of sound is needed in a particular track. A producer also needs to know how to make use of modern music tools like software and workstations. My specialty in this area is producing music in software such as Pro-Tools, Logic, Reason, Ableton Live, and even Garageband. I can help students/clients assemble home studios, figure out how to use gear or software, help them learn how to use loops and compose original music, create new and unique sounds, learn how to mix and master, and any of a number of other skills modern producers need to know. Lessons in this field are custom tailored to the student's particular needs and available gear.

  • drums

I have been playing drums for over nine years. I play in local rock bands and occasionally as a session drummer at the studio I intern at. I play many different styles because I listen to so many different styles of music: rock, jazz, fusion, funk, pop, hip hop, etc. I can teach just about anything on drums except metal; I played in an industrial metal band once but those days are behind me. I focus on musicality when playing the drums; I can teach rudiments and the basics and all that but I think too much of that stuff keeps a drummer from having fun, which is what playing is all about and which is what encourages someone to continue playing and practicing. You're not gonna sit down at the kit if it isn't fun. Of course, some basics are necessary, and some students really need to focus on only the basics, especially when they're just starting out. I still like to apply those foundations to a musical context. Drumming is my passion!

  • general computer

I can teach the following basic Windows or Mac computing skills and many others: internet, email, digital photos, digital music, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Pages, iPhoto, iTunes, iPods and other mp3 players, virus and spyware cleanup/maintenance, etc.

  • general music

I can teach, at varying levels, guitar, bass, piano, drums, music theory, music notation, composition and arranging, and the like. If you're interested in something musical, there's a great chance I know at least a little about it and a pretty good chance I know a lot about it! I minored in music at Florida Atlantic University and took a summer program at Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA. I play in bands, record lots of different artists, know a fair amount about the industry, publishing, copyright, promotion, getting paid for your songs, and all those sorts of things. Even if you just want to chat about music, I'd probably be interested. As far as instrument lessons go-- I can teach beginner piano, beginner to intermediate guitar (I am a fine rhythm guitarist who knows his theory but a horrible shredder), beginner to intermediate bass, and all levels of drums.
