About
Jamison: |
Hey, my name's Jamison. I am a naturally gifted musician, focusing my musical efforts on composition and the make-up of music and theory. I have been studying theory since the age of 5 and composing my own works from age 9. This is my true passion and I would love to share it with others willing to learn.
I love to teach. I studied for an educational degree for two years in college, then changed my major to composition to further develop my skills before returning to education. I led theory and composition study groups all throughout my schooling, and was highly regarded for my knowledge and successful teaching methods by my peers.
I teach in a combination of ways. I start with the book learning explanations. This is always the foundation of knowledge, whether the words make sense at first or not. I follow this up with an aural supplement to help the text make sense, ie games and tricks to remember and understand a concept. Now we go back to the text and combine the two for the maximum learning experience and retention. |

composition (music)

I have been composing music since the age of 9. I have studied formally and independently ever since then. I compose for a wide variety of ensembles, mostly instrumental, and my style can vary from piece to piece. My main influences come from the post-romantic era, mainly Rachmaninov, Holst, and Stravinsky.
I have many works self-published, as well as professionally recorded by amateur and collegiate groups. These include solo concertinos with piano, small woodwind ensembles, nine-part choral works, up to full orchestra and wind ensemble works.

general music

I began my music studies around the age of 4 when I taught myself how to read music from a big note song book. I learned note reading, rhythms, scales, and placement of the grand staff on the piano in treble and bass clefs. I have been studying music and all facets of it since then.
I feel that music is vital for a child to learn, especially at a young age, though any age can benefit from the knowledge.
