the college essay
is a challenge. Open-ended prompts and the pressure to write the “great American college essay
” only add to Writer’s Block, or as some parents describe it, procrastination. I can help your student create and develop an authentic essay, with your student’s unique voice and qualifications. And in the process, your student will learn how to write simply and clearly, and hopefully better. More importantly, the applications are done!
I am a former marketing
and advertising professor, publicity writer and hold an MBA in marketing. I spent 10 years in the advertising industry in Boston, almost 10 years overseas in marketing positions for non-profits or as a marketing professor, and have been based in Texas for the past 20 years as a licensed High School Business
teacher, marketing consultant and part-time college instructor. Typical marketing classes at the college and MBA level require a lot of writing, analysis and creative solutions to case studies, and I am well used to editing
and assisting budding writers.
My approach is to brainstorm with your student and uncover the important and unique elements for the essay. We do this in a face-to-face meeting, and flesh in the supporting details. Your student writes an outline with me. The next step is the first draft, sent by email
, edited by me with comments and returned by email. I keep parents informed of the status, and I keep students on schedule. If there is a second meeting, we work on this draft together or we move on to other essays and application requirements.
I am not interested in ghost writing your student’s essay, dictating the words and sentences or writing untruths. Your student does the writing.
