I am a recent honors graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle. I earned a double degree: a B.A. in History, as well as a B.S. in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Wildlife Conservation. I also earned a minor in Quantitative Science. I have always been especially proficient in history and social science, including the related fields of general reading and writing. In high school, I received my senior class social studies award, and I completed an honors thesis in history at university. Additionally, while in college I helped co-found my school's mock trial team, a program that went from nonexistent to twelfth at nationals in three years. My academic background prepares me well to serve as a tutor in any area of history, as well as the related fields of general reading and writing (I achieved extremely high scores in these areas on the SAT, as well as on the verbal portion of the GRE). In addition to tutoring, I am also a thorough proofreader and am happy to look over essays or assignments. While I do not have an extensive science background, I am comfortable tutoring in environmental or ecological science.
I know that history and social science can be daunting, particularly because, at times, it can all seem so subjective. However, I firmly believe that once someone can move past trying to look for the one right answer, and realize that all he or she is doing is looking for patterns and making connections between ideas, then history can, as they say, "come alive." I aim to make history, reading, writing, or whatever I'm teaching fun, easy to understand, and, above all, easy to relate to. We are all individuals, and usually all it takes to understand something is an individualized approach. I look forward to getting to know all my students and helping them understand things in the way that works best for them!
