I have an undergraduate degree in biology and a master's degree in geology and geophysics. I have a lot of experience with tutoring. I have tutored my siblings over the years in math, and I have also volunteered as a tutor with my church to teach SAT preparation math for high school students. I also taught Physical Geology to undergraduate students as a graduate student at LSU.
As a young child, I used to hate math, but I had an amazing tutor in 10th grade that was patient with me and really took the time to explain and answer my questions, and made me enjoy the subject.
I hope to translate that experience given to me by my tutor years ago to any student I teach by being patient, calm, and making sure my students understand the basics of the math topics being taught. Without a thorough grasp of the basic math concepts, the subject becomes difficult. To me, math is a game with a lot of rules. Understanding the rules of any game is key to becoming a master of that game, and with a lot of practice, you get better at the game. The same applies for math: a firm grasp of the basic building blocks will enable you to understand the logic and workflow to reaching an answer for a math problem.
