High School Counselor & special Education Teacher.. Oh my!

I am a high school guidance (school) counselor in a public high school in Bucks County, PA. Additionally, my background has been in special education, K-12. As a teacher, I have experience in all grade levels, elementary, middle, and high school. Additionally, I have a certification in English, Grades(s) 7-12 which makes me highly qualified. I have experience with students in all disability categories, K-12 and feel that all students can learn, it's just a matter of finding what works for him/her. My real passion is college/career counseling, resume building, college prep (i.e. sat's act's, essays, the application process, etc...)

I am also pursuing a Phd at Temple University. My dissertation will be focusing on school-based mental health and the effects on academic achievement. I am a big fan of research, including writing, proof-reading, and walking all my students through everything step-by-step. I will do everything in my power to break down material into smaller, more manageable components to meet the needs of any learner. I look forward from hearing from you!

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Bachelors degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, and I'm highly qualified in English. I have tutored students at all levels, especially elementary remediation.

Special Needs

I have my special education certification, level II, grades N-12. Additionally, I have experience in this area, work during the summer with students with special needs, and have a passion for this group of students.

Hebrew

I went to hebrew school and confirmation. Additionally, I graduated from Gratz College and earned a teaching certification enabling me to teach hebrew school K-8. I have also tutored several students from my temple for his/her bar-bat-mitzvah!

Career Development

Similar to what I have written regarding college counseling, a background in special education and school counseling gives me several skills in the area of career development. I know a lot of services that are out there for students and help teachers, students, and his/her families make the right choices. I have several career interest inventories and can navigate the naviance program with ease.

College Counseling

I am a high school guidance counselor. On a daily basis, I am helping students with college and career decisions, the application process, and helping families navigate the tumultuous college process. I am "fluent" in Naviance, I am able to read transcripts, help students choose courses, and have several college admission contacts.

ADD/ADHD

I have experience writing 504 plans (under the American Disabilities Act) and also working with students who have an IEP under the category, OHI (Other Health Impairment). I am familiar with Dr. Amen's 6 different types of ADD/ADHD and study the different brain forms for each type. I am familiar with the medications, the accommodations, and how students learn!

Aspergers

I have a bachelors of science in special education. My experience is with students in all areas of disabilities; however, every summer I work at a summer camp for an entire weekend with students with aspergers and autism. As a high school counselor, I am working constantly along side the special education teacher (IEP teacher) in order to provide ample services to my students.

Dyslexia

Hello, I have a B.S. in Special Education (K-12). I worked as a special education teacher for 5 years in mulitple settings and have experience tutoring and working with students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
