I teach high school French teacher at an all boys military boarding school. My classroom is my home. I have 3 rules in my classroom: Be respectful, be prepared, and do your best. I have high expectations for my kids, and I do everything I can to help them meet and exceed those expectations. I search for, find, and create different ways to explain the same concept until I am sure that each student understands it. It's hard work, and I love it.
I feel that we've all, at one point or other, been intimidated by standard teaching practices. I want my students to be as deeply invested in their success as I am. I want my students to care about the subject we study; I don't want to scare them away. To that end, I emphasize techniques that give power and control to students. I don't want to just tell my students what they need to know. If that were all there was to being a teacher, then we wouldn't exist, and everyone would get their education through textbooks. No, I want my students to take control of their studies, and I want to be their coach along the way. Whether it's French grammar, or English composition, or reading comprehension, my knowledge helps, but it's my passion for teaching that makes my students successful.
