Ever since I first started working with computers on the Atari 400/800 in the late 1970's, I've loved to learn about, and tutor in, all areas of computers: general operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, DOS, UNIX and Linux), business applications such as Word and Excel, plus programs to help with my photography workflow (Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator) and other behind-the-scenes systems like WordPress and MySQL databases. When people have computer problems, they come to me, although I prefer to teach people how to fix their own problems, as that "ah ha!" moment is certainly worth it in the end.
Over the years I worked through the Commodore computer line: VIC-20, C-64, C-128 and B-128. After working with DOS- and Windows-based computers in the military (US Army), worked as an administrative assistant using WordPerfect, Microsoft Word and Excel. Starting in the early 1990's and continuing into the present, working as a Unix, Linux, Windows and Macintosh Systems Administrator, supporting diverse environment in industries such as Hollywood special effects, defense contracting, healthcare and aviation just to name a few. I have multiple certifications in the IT industry: MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) and SCSA (Sun Certified System Administrator), in addition to having taken classes toward the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate). I can tutor all aspects of computers, from the basics such as mouse and keyboard usage, all the way through advanced networking and security concerns, wireless security and firewall configuration.
In the mid-80's, I purchased my first black-and-white film SLR camera, adding photography as a semi-professional hobby that I constantly practice, learn about and mentor others with. I own, and am very familiar with, film SLR (B&W and color), modern point-and-shoot and digital SLR (dSLR) cameras. My advanced computer knowledge, coupled with my photography experience, allows me to explain basic to advanced workflow techniques including the basics (transferring images from your camera to your computer), to more advanced topics such as Digital Asset Management, photo manipulation, color correction and preparation for various output formats (screen/web and print).
As I have a day job, I am generally available for tutoring in the evenings and on weekends.
Thank you for your consideration!
