Algebra 1

Algebra is, in short, the gateway to success in the 21st century. What's more, when students make the transition from concrete arithmetic to the symbolic language of algebra, they develop abstract reasoning skills necessary to excel in math and science. This math can be found on college entrance exams and on the job, so whether a student wants to be a doctor or electrician, it's important to master. Learning algebra made subsequent classes like calculus much easier, but also helped improved my...

Algebra 2

Algebra II is the fork in the road. Those who succeed in this second part of the algebra sequence are well on their way to precalculus, calculus, and higher mathematics, which open the door to careers in science, engineering, medicine, economics, information technology, and many other fields. I love this subject because it ultimately provided me the knowledge to understand formulas in my higher-level chemistry courses and the complicated equations I use now to dose medicines for my patients.

Chemistry

I LOVE chemistry! Before I switched to a pre-pharmacy major in college, I was a biochemistry major. My High School teacher helped me fall in love in chemistry and it is has come naturally to me since. Chemistry is not an abstract science, there's always a right answer, so I feel given the right teacher and information everyone can understand it eventually.

####
Geometry

Geometry is a math that many students fail to grasp due to the abstract nature of it with the diagrams and proofs it includes. It's the math I enjoyed most in high school because you can actually picture the concepts on paper instead of just thinking them up in your head. This is why when I tutor geometry I enjoy teaching them how to properly draw the diagrams so they can effectively understand and solve the problems.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra obviously helps prepare a student for the higher-level algebra courses, but as part of a bigger picture, this class helps develop the mind for real-world problems involving numbers. The critical thinking and number skills developed in prealgebra can help determine how well a student will perform later. My solid foundation of prealgebra help set me up for the extensive math courses I took from high school through pharmacy.

####
Precalculus

The purpose of pre-algebra is obviously to prepare a student to take algebra and then go on to upper level math. Without a good foundation in pre-algebra, a student may suffer academically for the remaining years they take upper level math courses. Pre-algebra is everything about numbers that falls between the basic four (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and algebra.

Anatomy

I had to take multiple anatomy courses before pharmacy school, and throughout pharmacy school, that knowledge carried me into subjects where it was imperative I remember it all. Diseases and the medicines that treat them don't make sense if you don't know the body first.

####
Physiology

A lot of what I do as a pharmacist is based on my physiology knowledge. You must know the actions of the different body 's systems in order to know how to better help them be healthy.

####
SAT Math

SAT math is not about what you already know, necessarily, but how you can use reasoning skills to find the answer with the information given. What makes sense to you? I performed well on this test and with my vast science background, I have the ability to help others succeed here.

####
Physical Science

Physical science, being a mix of physics and chemistry, was something I really enjoyed. This is basically the building block for higher-level physics and chemistry, all of which I had to take in high school, college, and pharmacy school and excelled in. There are a lot of real-world applications for physical science, so it's more real to students when taught properly.

####
ACT Math

Just like ACT science, ACT math is not about what you already know, necessarily, but how you can use reasoning skills to find the answer with the information given. What makes sense to you? I performed well on this test and with my vast science background, I have the ability to help others succeed here.

Elementary Math

Having a strong math/science background myself, I love to pass it on, no matter the age of my student. Younger children require more patience and sensitivity. They also need to know learning can be a lot of fun, so as not to burn out on school so early. Because I must use these qualities in my current job with my patients and I have experience helping my younger siblings with their learning, I feel can definitely help elementary students with these subjects.

Pharmacology

I am currently a staff pharmacist doing clinical work at a hospital. After receiving my PharmD and working for 3 years, my knowledge-base has definitely grown. When treating my patients and advising doctors, I have to know how the drugs work (pharmacology) to ultimately help the patient.
