Thus far my experience has been very rewarding, and more than I could have hoped for in a tutor. I have to remember to face her during conversations, and phone calls are out, but as we exchange our first languages, her ASL and mine spoken, the learning experience is unique and enhanced for me. I highly recommend her for grammar and ASL. Even if you don't need both, you'll be glad you did. Update: Listening and hearing factor in to all forms of communication, written, verbal and ASL.
We had previously had several months of ASL classes, but the schedule no longer worked for us. Laurie was able to pick right up where our classes left off. She has worked with us to customize the lessons to build on what we already learned without starting over. Its obvious that she prepares ahead of time for each lesson, as she comes with a lesson plan and worksheets for each day. We look forward to continuing ASL lessons with her and have already recommended her to other family members.
I studied ASL before with the help of youtube videos and Bill Vicars ASL website, but I've never had the experience of working with a deaf teacher, which was helpful in regards of grammar and actually understanding the culture. Saif, I've learned is a really nice guy, smart, knowledgeable, positive, and flexible. I recommend him to anyone who wants to increase their confidence or simply begin learning. He's awesome!
