Frequently asked questions

Applications may be submitted between 12am Central Time on September 28, 2017 and 11pm Central Time on May 31, 2018. Twenty (20) top ranking essays will advance to the second round, which runs between 12am Central Time on June 1, 2018 and 11pm Central Time on June 15, 2018. Three (3) scholarship recipients will be notified by email on or around July 15, 2018.

What is the essay about?

In English, compose an essay of 300 words or fewer that answers the question: What do you want to be when you grow up? (It's never too late to follow your dreams.) Find six tips for writing a winning scholarship essay here.

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone who is at least 16 years or older with plans to be enrolled in a college, university, or adult online education program sometime between August 1, 2018 and November 1, 2020 is encouraged to apply. This includes most high school sophomores.

Who is eligible to judge?

Any site visitor may vote for essays during the first round in addition to a panel of judges determined by Wyzant. A panel of five judges determined by Wyzant will choose the three winners during the final round.

When does the first round begin and end? How are essays judged in the first round?

The first round will include both a period of public voting and contest judging. Public voting begins at 12am Central Time on September 28, 2017 and ends at 11pm Central Time on May 31, 2018. The first round of contest begins at 12am Central Time on June 1, 2018 and ends at 11pm Central Time on June 15, 2018.

The top ten (10) essays that receive the most public votes by site visitors will advance to the second round. An additional ten (10) essays will be selected by Wyzant.

When does the final round of judging begin and end? How are essays judged in the final round?

The final round of judging begins at 12am Central Time on June 1, 2018 and ends at 11pm Central Time on 11pm Central Time. The 20 essays that make it to the second round are judged by a panel of 5 judges determined by Wyzant, who will decide the 3 final scholarship winners.

How is my personal information used?

A minimum amount of personal information is needed to verify your submission and provide Wyzant with a means of contact should you become a scholarship recipient. This personal information is used for our internal records only and we will not share your personal information with any third parties.

What scholarship awards are available? How do I redeem a scholarship?

Based on the results of the second round judging process, first place will receive a $10,000 scholarship, second place will receive a $3,000 scholarship, and third place will receive a $2,000 scholarship. Each scholarship will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient’s accredited educational institution.
