Algebra1 Solving for x

can you explain the computer set up you used to do this? I'm still joining the new century
Given that
3x-7=x-11
Add 7 on both sides
3x-7+7=x-11+7
3x=x-4
Subtract x from both sides
3x-x=x-4-x
2x=-4
Divide both sides by 2
2x/2=-4/2
Cancel the common factor 2
x=-2

I would add the recommendation that although a student should get the correct x when following the rules, it's always wise to check the answer by plugging it into the original equation.
The check is always good for new students in algebra.
