Kick-off to my new type of tutoring - Motivational Tutoring!   I am a firm believer, as a parent, substitute teacher, former drug education instructor and now, private tutor that if a child is motivated with creative and competitive styles of learning, it will increase their academic skill AND confidence.    By using props such as playing cards, dominoes, stuff animals,... read more

Hey everyone, I'm Joel! I'm just crazy about language and have spent the last ten years learning dialects from the clicking Xhosa to the gaffable Yiddish. I'm excited to help you out with your writing because its is something I have been passionate about for a long time. But, at the end of the day this is something new for me and I'm looking forward to getting to know you as we begin this adventure... read more

Hello future students!   I have decided to write a short story about my background and life to assist anyone seeking to hire me for tutoring. My name is Jennifer Powell (obviously... :-) ). I grew up in Montgomery, AL. As a child I always excelled in school activities, and learning was very natural to me. I was quite the quiet one, but not a geek. Good morning! I am excited to get started in the field of tutoring. I'm a professional educator and I would not want to do anything else. It really is the joy of my life and I think it shows through my love of learning and helping others learn. I believe that education should be fun! If you're not having fun then you're not doing it right!

The first session is really a time for the tutor to get to know the student. The tutor really needs some time to understand where the student struggles and what they can do. Make the first session fun. The student and the tutor should lay out their expectations and how they plan to achieve those goals.

So far I've found that the testing system is ingenious and appropriate, even if the approval process takes way longer than I expected.   Feel free to ask me any questions! I'd love to help anyone out.

While I have tutoring experience in academic settings, I have never taken the step to tutor independently. WyzAnt has provided an avenue through which I can independently schedule tutoring hours, create lesson plans, and maintain a network of potential students. Thank you, WyzAnt! ...

I'm making my way through about three hundred qualifying tests.  I should get through them in the next couple of days.   Wyzant wants to know, "What are your tips to stay motivated through finals at the end of the school year?"   I just finished my last final paper of the semester yesterday.  I think that the best thing to do to stay motivated is to... read more

Hi, So, obviously I'm new on here and want to hit the ground running.   ...Electrical Engineering student at UTC...   I have tutored students, whether it be classmates, college kids, or adults, since about 6th or 7th grade.  My mother and grandmother are both teachers, and our family jokes that we all walk out of the womb carrying a laser pointer and wearing glasses.   I... read more
